umm.. they need to tighten up this combat some more.

It looks like this guy is just cooling the other guy off with two fans on a really hot day.

@real65rcncom

If you take the time to read the link below the article, the author says this game is not about fast-paced PvE combat but tactical PvP combat (there is a link to an example of this in the Korean trailer in the same article).

However, given that, what is the "tactics", I wonder. It certainly doesn't seem to be positional. If I had to guess, it seems a bit like "Rock,Paper,Scissors" in PvP or some blocking and countering with a stronger move. Not sure this is what some people will like, but if it's implemented well, it can be fun.

@Space Cobra I'm not sure what that has to do with the graphical depiction of the player's swords that don't look like they are even touching the other guy physically but able to draw blood, but ok.

Still just looks like he's cooling the other guy off because it's really humid outside.

The combat animations don't look tight enough yet but being beta I guess they will work on it. Conversely I think Blade and Soul's animations look much better and they actually "connect" with the target for a martial arts game.

@real65rcncom

Take a look at this trailer around the 1:15 mark (maybe :42 mark, too?) for what they mean by PvP combat being different. The other guy, who I assume is another player, reacts to the blows of combat.

Again, while I do want more PvE elements, at the present, they seem to be concentrating on the PvP side (with moar animations!) and I agree, it is kinda strange, but this shows they *can* do such combat reactions, although the writer from MMO culture wants to "choke a horse" since he complains that everyone brings it up and he claims it's PvP (Agreed, he's kinda missing the point or the forest through the trees.)

Hopefully, this means they'll get to NPC reactions later.

I do feel like this is a less well-made version of Blade & Soul. BnS is nowhere near completed, but it already looks a lot better than AoW (altho I really have problem with the female.... bodies).

The only issue with B&S is that we have no clue when it will even be done in Korea, let alone having it release in America >

@Space Cobra

The combat still looks a lot less impressive than BnS after watching the trailer multiple times.... I think I started to sound like I am trolling.....

But yeah, check out the combat of BnS and how the enemies react to your action, as well as the combos you can pull off. They are impressive. At the same time, it still retains the classic MMO feels with all the combos and actions.

Also want to say the article gives me some confusion (in regards to what I responded to real65 up top). It says the focus is not on PvE combat and stuff, but then it later talks about quests being important (and even says it is a "quest-grind game"). So...it's not primarily PvE-focused, but the questing and "Miracle Encounter System" with great storytelling is great and important?

Kinda confusing there. I guess I need more details. I'd like a bit more PvE stuff in this, but I can do some PvP. And I'd like to see at least some costume color variations at the beginning (although asian games are not know for giving such customizing options so early in a game).

I am one of the lucky people that are playing AoW cn beta 1,and all i can say is that the game is just pure amazing ,has beautiful environments,great graphics ,outstanding wuxia lore,is true that theres not much mob grinding,it focuses on quests tens of thousands, also must be known that the combat looks slow just because those are basic skill,in aow takes time to cultivate and learn new skills,theres 1000 skills already and 20k quests so imagine that it takes some time till you get the good skills,also theres 9Yin manual which has the most powerful skills in the game,if your lucky enough to find that manual then you are set + faction skills etc,the game is so realistic that you feel youre really there,most beautiful mmo i ever played,and being a Wuxia fan myself well AoW is a dream came true for me
