If it's still a PS3 exclusive, I highly doubt it'll be the "biggest" one out there. Unless stuff like Call of Duty and Battlefield don't count.

Did you even read the 3 paragraphs? "Laurino's talking world maps and content, though, and when it comes to the ginormous sci-fi universe of New Eden, size does matter. "

@ed anger

Because console shooters have been outselling PC shooters for a long time now?

""In terms of scale, depth and volume of content, Dust 514 will easily be the biggest multiplayer FPS on the market," says CCP executive producer Brandon Laurino."

not for/against this game but.. haven't thse guys (company execs) learned their lessons yet about bragging up mmos?

"Such scale doesn't come cheaply, though, and the only thing bigger than Dust 514's galaxy map is its in-game store. Laurino says that CCP has thousands of microtransaction items ready to be purchased over the PlayStation network"

...annnnnnnd /hurl

Priorities.

Thousands of Cash shops micros already to go.. check.

Extensive game footage, gameplay and demos? Abort.

Scale , depth and volume of content. They didn't say "the best FPS game", they said "the biggest". And you all have to agree... Call of Duty and Battlefield might be fun for some... but the content is boring, repetitive and there's not a lot of it. They can brag all they want because they know it's the only title of this sort.

Agreed. CoD and Battlefield lack any sort of... well, depth. MMOs are generally built with that depth and evolution in mind, so it's easier to make a claim like that and have it mean something.

I LIKE Winnie the Pooh!!! =:o

(Oh, sorry, that was a response to another article on this site...)

Anyway, yes, they'd better have a pretty deep game that goes beyond just shooting, lobbies, and a marketplace. There better be some virtual-world stuff or something that is more MMO than shooter lobby. Although, DCUO is doing better on the PS3 than PC, it's numbers are showing some decline now.

24/7 shooting is fine. Shopping for your in-game avatar is alright, but you really need something compelling to keep interest in this game over a year or more or PS3 players will eventually head on to the new game, as is their normal mode. It's been suggested PC may be integrated, but we have to wait and see. They could have PC and PS3 players together, but lots of things, mostly decided "from the higher ups" would contribute to that.

(And did you know, Winston Churchill was also called, "Winnie" by friends and family?)

Interested in seeing what CCP has to offer but they have to show it instead of talking about it.

As Hilmar would say...
"Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this for a decade, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what [people] do and less of what they say."

Yes, but if it's actually 10 maps and 5 terrains, generated based on thousands of planets, thats not thousands of maps. It's actually like 10.
Just because it's taking place on a 50,000 planets, if 10,000 look the same, there's really no point.

@BigAndShiny

Aye, I'm expecting that to be the case. 10 maps possibly (based off some factors), then either an extra set of textures/misc. things that will be inserted at random for the maps. There is no game out there that has more than 10-20 unique maps, and I doubt CCP will be able to break that trend. And as a downloadable game, they just can't do it to begin with, or they are at the risk of taking up far too much space on a PS3 hard drive.

I'm also not liking the idea of them having so many items, as they claim, ready for sale right off the bat. The $20 free credits you get for the game sounds more like a requirement then, specially if it is all gear and weaponry.

@DevilSei The Unreal Tournament games have always been pretty packed with maps. As for games like Battlefield, the number is pretty low simply because the maps are massive amounts of data, and it and CoD-like games like to keep more maps for DLC's.

They said something at PAX that really worried me. They said that they are launching with 1 racial vehicle in each size class. So you'll have a Minmatar light vehicle, a Caldari medium, and an Amarr heavy. So you'd only be picking which size vehicle, not which race. With the others to come later. I really hope I heard that wrong. Launching an FPS that incomplete is nuts.

Or a PC gamer...

Its nice that Sony is working with them, but do they not think Valve would either? Make it a Steamworks game. They love microtransactions.

Its nothing but laziness. They don't want to take the time to develop for PC, and beyond that, they wouldn't want to spend the time to not make it a crappy console port if they did bring it to PC. Either way, PC gamers would still lose, and for a company that cut their teeth and made their name with PC gamers, that's just garbage, especially considering how much bigger this could be on PC than it will be on PS3. Its going to be half of what it could be, if that.

This is CCP trying to make inroads into the console market, and pull in another set of customers that doesn't overlap at all, really, with EVE's subscription base.

Jeez, you PC players are a defensive bunch...
