Mark October 13th through the 16th on your calendars, Star Wars: The Old Republic faithful, especially if you'll be anywhere in the vicinity of New York City.
BioWare's Hutt-sized Star Wars MMO will be hogging the spotlight at this year's New York Comic Con, and you'll have a couple of opportunities to get some hands-on time with the highly anticipated sci-fi title. The Alderaan and Huttball warzones will be playable at SWTOR's booth, while a few of the developers will be featured on three separate panels over the course of the event.
If you like a little alcohol with your Star Wars, you'll also want to make note of a dev-hosted meet-and-greet at District 36 on Wednesday, October 12th. All the details are available at the official site, so what are you waiting for?

In before mind numbing speculation, irrelevant anecdotes...and ren.

@Ren54 The teenagers and college daisies at mmorpg.com are ALWAYS enraged. Lol. But in fairness to Mr. Butler, who generally does some quality work along with his company, I'd want to get it out first and actually sell a few copies ahead of TOR as well :) Hopefully Defiance is actually ready and not just a rush/fap. I would hate to see Trion exhibit a Cryptic-esque odor. Cheers.

That screenshot sums up the main reason I probably won't roll a Commando: when you carry a gun that's bigger than you are, it kind of looks like you're compensating for something.

@Spacegrass if you man enough to carry it around, I don't think you are compensating for anything, it's not like he's taking it duck hunting. Smugglers and their ships on the other hand...

Awesome screenshot. First time I've been tempted to play as a trooper.

Either he's wearing power armor or the gun has some anti-grav, or both.

the gun is made of the latest *secret technological metal here* that makes it very lightweight.
It also fires the *secret technological bullet design* that makes for almost no recoil when firing.

I'm loving the beta but will be really glad when The Old republic Road show stops. Honestly I don't see how these guys develop they are always at some con somewhere.

@TexRob I meant to add, that basically I see it as a good sign. It means they have the game very close to done, and I would venture to say the "grunt" devs are working on cleaning up the bug lists. The lead devs are probably more of a managerial role at this point, making sure stuff is getting done and to help the other devs prioritize.

Star Wars TOR is #5 on the Preorder list now. Not the mention 500k + shown doesn't even represent the EU and digital sales!
Cannot wait to see how this game does, or to even get a shot at it in a beta test.

It's going to blow up around Xmas period, and I'm betting sold out in stores. I was looking at G4tv and it's one of their most talked about games.
Thats pretty funny considering the company that owns G4TV owns a piece of Rift through investment capital.

I guess that will make TOR the second MMOG blockbuster of all time. If the sales are really good, then ATVI might be correct about it bringing more to the MMO genre as well!
I just think that Bioware making an MMO(RPG) is a better thing for the genre. As long as they bring their best rpg skills as well as art and story telling, then it just can't fail!!! Bioware fans alone will eat this thing up, and then the Star Wars fans will gobble it up as well.
All analyst predictions are perhaps far too conservative!

I'm in the Beta Weekend test, and I'm enjoying it so far. TOR won't change your life, or redefine MMOs, but it's definitely enjoyable. I'd love to go into detail, but the darn NDA has my lips sealed.
I will say this: this may be the first good implementation of Coruscant-style city in a video game to date. It *feels* huge. It's not, in actually, it's just masked well, and given window dressing, but darnit, it's *good* window dressing.
