Wolverine and Deadpool at the same time. A plot is afoot!

Are they still going with the lame decision to force players to play their existing pre-generated characters?

@Faith

This really saddens me. I was looking forward to a Marvel MMO, but any game that doesn't let you create your own character absolutely will not be on my list of games to play. The bad part is that of the two universes, Marvel made a lot more sense for an MMO than did DC. DC had to create a reason for such an abundance of super powered individuals, but Marvel already had that built in with their whole mutant theme.

imho, it goes to show how out of touch Marvel is with the MMO community. They seem to think MMO players are just console gamers who use a PC...

@Malagarr

'Marvel already had that built in with their whole mutant theme.'

*cough* Guess you're several years out of date with Marvel canon.

Anyway, I'm all for it, because it's different, damnit. There's enough superhero MMOs where you make your own character. One where you inhabit the role of iconic characters is actually quite novel and interesting.

@JuliusSeizure

1 million unnamed and formerly deceased mutants were brought back to life recently during the Necrosha storyline.

Really the whole House of M story is loosing credibility in the last year or two since more and more mutants are just being brought back to life, repowered, or new ones popping up.

@JuliusSeizure

And yeah there are three hero MMO's but none of them are particularly any good.

@Protoavis Ah. I didn't know it was a million. Thought it was a few thousand spread out over the world.

Also, I like both CoH and DCUO. Opinions, you know?

@Faith There is probably a market for it. The CoH, CO, and DCUO launches were all half populated by Marvel/DC clone players. DCUO even make copying iconic heroes and villains a character creation option and let's you play as Batman, Robin, Joker, etc in PVP. Maybe the best compromise would be an MMO with parallel character systems. One for fully unique characters and one where you can play as iconic characters.

@Resurge this site is ridiculous with the downvotes ..seriously, i got downvoted for a difference of opinion? Thought that was supposed to be for trolling and flaming posts. SORRY wolverine fans, he DOESN'T DO IT FOR ME. I like Marvel fine, i love tons of their superheroes, but i dont GET Wolverine. Maybe you rabid fanboys could explain why he's so awesome, or have a dialog about it, instead of just down voting me cause you disagree with what I said.

This site is going to hell lately. Forum wars, and downvoting anything you dont personally agree with, regardless of the content of the post. You people are all sheep.

@Resurge

I'm gonna guess it's because you said he's the worst instead of simply saying he's one of your least favourite. The latter is clear opinion, the former is an insult to anyone who likes him.

For what it's worth, I'm not keen on the guy.

@Resurge

And JuliusSeizure answered your question perfectly.
Wolverine is awesome because he is a badass, he has a great background story (including living in Japan) and he is more unorthodox than the other super-heroes.

Deadpool is full of awesome as well though.

Hmm. Two months since the last playable character announcement. At this pace of reveals, I guess we can expect the game to launch in -- oh, 2020 maybe?

I was wondering that too. How does he avoid slicing his elbows off everytime he retracts his claws?

Ah, comic book physics...

I suppose the realization that you cannot have your own character in Marvel Universe Online and therefor no sense of real ownership is finally starting to soak in. My third favorite X-Men hero is cover and honestly I feel zero excitement about the game or even the prospect of playing through the character's story. So I guess it's time to admit to myself that playing through a pre-made hero's "epic" adventure just does not appeal to me when it comes to MMO's and instead I would rather have my own hero.

I wasn't sure of this because DC Universe did the reverse and the big stink then was "your nothing but a side-kick" but in the end I think I prefer it over playing a character I would feel no sense of ownership towards. It might be nice in a single-player game but for a gaming claiming to be an MMO...

For now I'll wait to see if any interest is stirred up when Nightcrawler or Gambit are released but I'm not holding my breath as I would just be lying to myself.

Quite a few typos so I'll just cover the one that annoys me the most: "you're" nothing but a side-kick"

My kingdom for an edit button. :-P

I'm a big Marvel fan, but please, I refuse to play a game with 20 Wolverines running around with 30 Deadpools and 10 Spideys (they already did this with the kid's game Superhero Squad Online). That's insane. Although DCUO fan a flop, at least they got character creation right, with a good story to explain the glut of superheroes.
