Last week we told you about a new three-faction sandbox MMO called The Repopulation. Today we've got the very latest on the game courtesy of Above & Beyond Technologies' end-of-September progress report.
As it turns out, some of September was dedicated to preparing for the game's initial announcement and piecing together the accompanying trailer. Other than that, though, the devs did make a bit of progress on gameplay proper. Action mode combat was the biggest addition, and the update describes an interesting mechanic that allows users to "toggle between action- or RPG-mode combat at any time during gameplay."
The other big addition is The Repopulation's military system. In a nutshell, it's a ranking system that allows players to gain military XP while performing various duties for their nation's armed forces. Ranks, medals, and perks like armor, weapons, vehicles, robotics, and special abilities are among the system's rewards.

The world looks good for alpha. Kind of an Uncharted or Mercanaries type-of- feel or something.
Will keep watching...

I'd like to hear more details. The first thing I think of when I hear this is post-NGE swg that allowed players to do fps targeting or tab targeting. Personally I'd prefer if devs would just pick one. For a sci-fi game, gotta be the action style.
Otherwise, looks good and keep it up! :)

The combat mechanics and animations need some work to make the firefights seem more dynamic. Flat-footed, slug-fests are a little boring. Hopefully the devs can incorporate positioning, cover, and dodges (like rolling) into the combat mechanics. Side-note: I really wish more MMOs would look at how DDO handles combat. The NPC AI also looks like it needs a little love.
That being said, this looks like a good start for pre-alpha. They have time to improve on all of this. I really like the few environments they showed. Add this to my revolving list of MMOs to watch, while hoping they can execute on their vision.

@mechanicalturk The game is in pre-alpha, the developers haven't implemented everything in yet since they ported the game to the Hero engine. Things such as using nearby objects for cover are on the to-do list as well.
