Surely if that's the headlienr of the patch there's no way it could be considered an expansion.

PWE's expansions are just fairly large content updates, they aren't on the same scale as WoW's expansions but are bigger than your normal free content update.

i really wanted to like this game. i dont normally do f2p but it looked awesome from screenshots and videos. but then when you actually get in and play ... i dunno, i didnt like it. there are tons and tons of people playing though. theres gotta be something likeable in there and maybe i just didnt understand it or make it far enough in.

anyone have a lengthy experience with this game? what are your thoughts/opinions?

@rotcafnogaw I feel the same way. It has nice graphics, a really nice feel, and is very well made for a f2p. But there's very little to do in the game. You just repeat the same dailies over and over and over. There isn't even any real endgame to look forward to.

Same. I really wanted to like it too. I'm an ex-WoW subscriber and have really been looking for the experience I had when I first played WoW. Maybe I'm just getting too old but FW just seemed a little chaotic by the time you got to the first main city. Crazy to be critical of something like that. Most people are looking for something to do and FW just had too much to do IMO. I didn't know where to go with my character. WoW was pretty straight forward... at least in the beginning. It's tough to explain. All the same, FW had pretty good graphics and animations.

Just some weirdness that seems to be inherent with most F2P titles. Like everything around you is an incentive to purchase cash shop items. Like walking through a Walmart.

The same feeling with post-F2P-LotRO. Sure I paid my $10/month for all access but I'm still surrounded by cash shop incentives.

yeah same here, my turn-off was that it was too generic, reminded me of a upped version of WoW(don't flame me for this comment, I am aware that there are a lot of differences), which never really caught on with me.

@rotcafnogaw My Steam account says I've played for only two hours, but I'm pretty sure that is wrong as I have been playing the game a lot for the past week. I must say that I love the combat in the game, even if I feel I'm left wondering if the game even has a story. I don't get the narrative, but I feel that the game is well designed. Perfect World is going to be a company to watch for in the future, I'm curious to see the future of Cryptic and Runic games now as well.

For me, it was the fact that I ran out of energy in like, 2 or 3 mobs. It was fight, fight, fight, sit for a few minutes and have my character gnaw on something. I did that song and dance on WoW, and so help me I'm not doing it again. I prefer games like City of Heroes and Lord of the Rings Online, which let me run mob to mob, sword in hand, valiantly chopping them down at quick speed.

You should never have energy issues in the starter areas, later in the game there are easy to create potions to drink at ANY time to restore mana or heath. Also, the game Gives you two powerful potions that heal or restores mana until it reaches it's limit, which I believe is 20,000 pts, which means you can use it every 10 secs until you use up the 20k...
So, wade in, swing away... and don't sit there for 5mins like a noob. lol

I wanted to like it as well, I was really looking forward to it which is extremely rare to almost non existent for me and f2p games. It was just too generic, bland...Felt like it was missing many things that it's hard to put my finger on just one issue.

Is that actually a usable spell in the game? Giant Flaming Fists of Doom?

That looks pretty cool...

They tried hard to make it feel like a western mmo, but to me it was only the visuals that was more western, the mechanics and all other stuff behind the facade was still Asian.

@Wurm : agree 100%. I checked it out and taken aback by the lack of basic features that any modern MMO should have. The controls are incredibly limited and feel quite primitive..mouse look and mouse move are one and the same which makes even moving your character around a chore. The over-the-top costuming and incredibly limited race/class selection didn't help either. I gave up after 30 minutes.

@psycros "I gave up after 30 minutes."

Which I think is one of the big issues with F2P games. You can do that... just try a game for a few minutes and that be that. Either continue playing it or immediately uninstall without any sense of loss. I don't think F2P games will ever have the dedicated player base you had during early WoW and EVE.

With subscription games (or the really true F2P GW), you have developers who are confident in their product and need to build a product that sustains a subscription base. You also have a player base who basically commits to at least play during the 30 days that came with the box in order to have a sense of getting your money's worth.

30mins to judge a game? The controls are identical to WoW except the right mouse look... but, it does use it when you auto-route... had you played more than 30min (is that a joke?!) it might have become clear you barely scratched the surface of the game's feel and content.

Not sure why I'd bother trying to explain to a player that condemns a game after less than an hours play when the game has over 1000 hours of content and levels, but this is how a game gets a bad rap, players like this who want instant gratification without putting in any work.

A few notes...

When you arrive the main city after leaving the starter area you may be daunted at the size and scope of the area. Use your (M)ap to find HENRY in the main square, next to him is RIO, take all the quests offered from them.
Now, open your (Q)uests, select a quest and left-click on the quest's destination or objective, your character will auto-route to the the spot or NPC, when you complete a quest click on HENRY's name in the log and the game will again auto-route you to him so the quest can be turned in for credit.

ALL NPC's are listed to the right of the map window, ANY NPC can be auto-routed by clicking on the name, all quest NPC's are included here.

When you get to level 20 and do the RIO quests he will give you your first mount, it will last 5 days, so you have 5 days of free rides to earn another mount via REPUTATION with your characters faction.

As you progress through levels other areas will open up via the transporter on the docks at the harbor, there is a tavern nearby on the boat and a gear vendor that offers matched gear for shards you earn via quests and killing elites in the questing areas.

The fastest way to level is using HENRY & RIO to do the 30 dailies offered, but these can be repetitive and put some off the game, for those I would say do the dungeons, the pet daily, and the other instances offered... these will also level you and supply gear, still, the dailies are quicker and less painless in the long run.

To avoid having to spend real cash... get the MERCHANT skills up ASAP, CHRISTOPHER will offer trade runs that can be done each day earning game cash
Many of the daily quests not offered by Henry or Rio will supply game enhancing gems, shards and augments that normally can only be purchased with real cash, so take advantage of these NPC quests.

JOBS are very important to completing HENRY's quests, mining, botany, alchemy, cooking and others will be Required to complete quests, if you don't have the ability to make or farm items the only other recourse is to buy them off the auction house.
The Auction house does not use the quest reward cash, if you want to buy off the auction house you must earn that type of cash by selling items on the auction house or earning it via Trade runs.

Hope all this helps to get you going, more in the near future.
