The Daily Grind: Do you complain about games you don't play?

This game is horrible and bad and a WoW clone and the worst thing ever, I can tell from the screenshots don't even talk to me if you disagree.

It seems like everyone has an opinion on big-name MMOs, even if the person with the opinion has never been past the starter areas. Whether you're discussing EverQuest or Star Trek Online, there's someone who has a long list of reasons about why the game is terrible. Of course, said complainers frequently don't play the game, sometimes because of the issues they like to raise -- but sometimes this leads to people complaining about bugs or bad systems that have been patched out months ago and are no longer an issue.

Sometimes, the complaints are simply "I didn't like how it was designed and it's not for me." Other times, the complaints are hate-filled rants that would fit nicely in a breakup letter for an ex-lover. But whether the complaints are valid or not, today we ask you if you complain about a game that you do not play. If so, which game, and how much did you play before you left? And if not, what springs to mind when you see people who do?

No, never. NEVER! OK, maybe occasionally to piss off a "friend" at the workplace. But in general, if I don't like a game, it is not worth talking about that much, unless it is being compared to my favourite games.

Same here. For games I like in general, I will complain about some aspect that is lacking. Unless it is SOE, often enough people agree with me and the game is changed/updated to what we want.

I do NOT complain about games I played but thought nothing could fix them. Plausibly, there are games that just aren't suited to my wants.

In a nutshell, it is all constructive criticism.

The only time I complain about a game I don't play is when that game comes into my house, eats all my Lucky Charms, and then changes the channel on my TV to something I don't want to watch. I hate it when games I don't play will do that!
Other than that, I think that complaining about a video game you don't play is about the least constructive thing a person could do. If you stand on one foot in the middle of a rain storm singing Lady GaGa songs out of key, THAT would be more constructive than complaining about a video game you don't play, because at least you're getting some exercise.

I complain about games I played, and then found they are absolutly nothing like advertised.

Or games I played and enjoyed, and then the developers though it was a good idea feeding them to the dogs with the next patch/xpac.

@Fabius Bile One thing I find really annoying about pretty much every MMO that isn't WoW is the amount of anti-WoW ranting that goes on in them. I can't log into LotRO, City of Heroes, or RIFT without seeing a chat channel spilling over with people complaining about the horrific prospect that ex-WoW players (often called "WoWtards" or "WoW babies") might be switching to their game.

"I played WoW for four years," one of the complainers inevitably states. "It was total garbage. I'm so glad I switched over to this game. But now I hear the devs are making the game less hardcore and less grindy. Soon we'll be flooded with WoWtards. Ugh."

People don't complain about WoW-players as much anymore. They've diverted their hate to the F2Pers and Farmville kiddies.

I can complain about whatever I want, to whomever I want, whenever I want. If I would play a game if they only implemented "factor X", then I will complain.

What strikes me as odd is that clearly the vast majority of opinions differ from my own. Which is fine, I live in a democracy and I'm willing to live under the opinions of the majority. However I do find it striking that those who hold the opinion I should not complain about games, are those willing to insult others for comments on forums.

Answering the question that was presented: Nope I don't complains about games I don't play and I don't complain about ones that I have played in the past. I'm happy just to get on with it and if others enjoy their time in that play-land so be it =)
