theres alot to love about daoc but after playing newer mmos like wow, war, rift, eq2, etc.... "movement" in daoc feels soooo clunky. ontop of that, buffbots are still everywhere. id say 60% of the max lvl characters are buffbots. then you stack trials of atlantis, catacombs, new frontiers, laby and everything else on it.... its just not the game i fell in love with. i miss old daoc so so so soooo much.

@rotcafnogaw

When I did the free trial several years ago the "skating" when moving, that feeling of not being attatched to the ground with my avatar and the general emptyness of the EU servers killed any chance of me enjoying it. Still.....for those that can enjoy it, nice to see it hasn't been forgotten.

I was wondering what happened to Second Star Interactive, they looked like the new old kid on the block that could create DAoC2 or something like it. Anyone know what happened to Second Star Interactive? They were my only hope!

Hmm...

I guess at this point in the game's life, such a move to better equip newbies is a good one. It kinda rubs me the wrong way, but I see where they are coming from.

@Space Cobra I see what you mean, but in this game, the situation really does warrant it.

First of all, lets remember we are talking about a game that lets people who have cap lvl characters make instant lvl 1-20 alts which can then be used in the battlegrounds (which are completely awesome btw) to pvp. These people with leveled characters also have a TON of money and resources. No one makes an alt for bgs without a full set of crafted/imbued/tricked out max stat amor and weapons. Most have buffbots. There is no way a true newbie can compete with this. It is simply not possible. There is a lot of fun to be had in early lvl bg pvp in DAOC, which might hook new customers, but no one will ever see that if they go in and get repeatedly farmed by 10 year vets on twinked out alts.

I'm going to be honest, I view this as a return to the game's roots. Back at release people were able to run out into the frontiers and help out with very little time invested in "gearing out." Even with SI, all you really needed was a set of crafted gear and you'd be fine; rare PvE drops were an augmentation, not a necessity. It wasn't really until ToA that PvE became a necessity for RvR, which is why it was so hated. Which is kind of funny, because then Mythic does a change like this and so many veterans complain about how they're dumbing down the game by reducing the time investment needed to be PvP ready. That was the entire point of the game from the beginning; it was intended from the beginning for people to be able to get to the PvP quickly!

This will essentially hurt the game in the long run. I believe this falls into the category, "Dumb down to cater to the masses." Why? Well let's see, the people that have stuck with the game for so long have done so because of the highly competitive PvP in DAoC. Now you're going to cater to the newbie crowd by giving them gear though PvE encounters, that is durable enough to withstand a twinked veteran. Wouldn't that just piss off the veterans? Now their twinked character that they have spent months gearing up, is equal to some PvE content gear through questing. That would be enough for me to quit. Most of the damn good gear is crafted, but instead of showing people how to craft amazing gear, they throw in a couple quest gear rewards. What is sounds like to me, is the fact that they are pushing veterans out of the lower level BGs and forcing the highly competitive part to focus strictly on 50+ RvR. Preparation in properly assembling your gear at lower levels is crucial in understanding gear at the higher levels. I personally believe they will lose some veteran players, especially on the cusp of SWTOR. The newbie crowd, is essentially that, the newbie crowd, and they will not stick around. The most humorous idea about the whole scenario is the fact that they are giving these rewards through PvE encounters, while DAoC is a PvP dominate game. That is like going out and killing a WoW raid boss that only drops resilience gear; and yes I do know that Wintergrasp bosses drop resilience gear, but resilience gear is worthless in PvE.

@Bladerunner83

People like you are the reason we got ToA in the first place. The game was never about spending significant amounts of time gearing yourself out until then, and anyone who pulls out the "dumbing down" argument to defend it is an idiot.

No, it's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about. Most people who use that stupid term don't, so don't feel too bad about it.

I love how DAoC vets on one hand hate on ToA for forcing PvE into a PvP game then on the other they complain when this change comes around and reduces the amount of PvE time required to be PvP ready. And these are the people that expect Mythic to listen to them when they send in feedback. No wonder DAoC and WAR have turned into such a mess.

@Bladerunner83

Go back to trying to ruin whatever other games you play with your terrible feedback, at least be kind enough to spare DAoC this crap.

"Dumbing down the game." Bull, the game was never about PvE until ToA and anyone who thinks PvE achievements in this game is something to be proud of has no place commenting on it. Anyone who quits the game because new players can get into the BGs and frontiers quicker is a tard and I don't want them anywhere near this game.

If you were ever a fan of DAOC, check out the upcoming MMO "Prime, Battle for Dominus". Looks very promising, right down to Sanya being the Community Manager. http://www.primeonline.com/
