It's hard not to find something familiar in WildStar's fusion of the wild west aesthetic with the exploration of an unfamiliar planet in deep space. That having been said, most people anticipating the game would likely find nothing to fault with that combination in terms of visuals. But what will the game sound like? That's what this week's WildStar Wednesday addresses, with a piece by Jeff Kurtenacker about composing the music you'll hear in-game.
As Kurtenacker puts it, the biggest challenge as a composer is to create music that combines the game's diverse thematic points into a unified score, producing the right mixture of wonder, adventure, and a bit of old frontier exploration. But if all the technical discussion of composition is a bit beyond you, the post also includes two sample tracks from the game's soundtrack, a chance for players to get a sense of what to expect from the finished experience. The tracks are brief, but they're certainly the sort of thing that gets you in the mindset of the game -- and that's just what they're there for.

"Listen - Do You Smell Something?"
I laughed. Classic Ghostbusters line that nobody I know seems to have noticed.

Seriously, why are their hands so big? It's hard to imagine a game with worse character design than World of Warcraft, but this is just awful.

The trouble with mmo music is its either forgettable or it's so annoying you switch it off quick. The downside of having music in a game players spend hours every day for months on end.

@FrostPaw I don't know. Back in WOW I used to go to Tanaris (RIP old Tanaris music, by the way) and Shadowmoon Valley purely for the music, even after several years. Same with some places in LOTRO. Good ambient music helps the atmosphere a great deal, in my opinion.
Though I'd agree it shouldn't be too overpowering - I can't feel "heroic" for two hours, it wears me out. :)

Wasn't a bad bit of music. Wildstar and The Secret World are the games that I am waiting for with baited breath.
