Should have told him that NO POWERSETS OR ARCHETYPES should have to be PAID FOR when you are a VIP paying $15 a month. Thats absolutely ridiculous and will send players running.

Everything else is perfect, but thats just bullshit

@Stormwalker I think they're whining about having to "pay" for Beam Rifle. It cost me nothing, really, since I used the free points I had to unlock it. In fact, except for the additional storage, I had to find stuff to blow points on.

Alucard, just pay the measly 15 bucks - thats barely any money for an ENTIRE MONTH of 100s of hours of gameplay

@(Unverified) The game never held my interest long to make it worth paying a sub for and I am not going to pay $15 just so I can play one of my characters I had when I was "paying" I was just going to tinker a bit,but I have plenty of other stuff that keeps my attention but hey you enjoy your 100's of hours of fun.

Besides, that's not the point. If alucard3000 paid for the box game, he should be entitled to what's in the box. That includes all Achetypes and Power Sets that came with the original CoH/CoV game. Taking those away is like the car dealership taking away your car's tires because they've changed the business model. So fair is fair...they need to give those back. Just saying.

@Utakata Thank you! Someone who runs on the same logic I do. Almost every response to this argument I've gotten has been along the lines of "You didn't buy the content, you bought access to that content."And at the end of the day, isn't that the same thing as buying and owning it, for the purpose of an MMO? If anything, I did own the content, but couldn't actually access it until I ponied up $15 for the original sub. The thing that makes this even more irksome is the fact that anyone who purchased Going Rogue retains access to all of that content (though they couldn't access any controller or mastermind powers anyway under the new setup, which is equally jip-tastic.)

@(Unverified) Accursed lack of edit button...
Anyway, if people get to keep using their Going Rogue content, why can't I still use my Mastermind, when having purchased CoV means I effectively bought the class?

"VIP Players are going to continue to receive free content with every issue. With Issue 21, it was the Time Manipulation Power Set, Defense and IDF Costume Sets, access to First Ward Missions, and access to the Going Rogue Content. So we've set a pretty high bar for ourselves for Issue 22 and beyond, and we plan to exceed it."

Geeze, what a money grabbing, nickel and diming, cash grab this, and all other F2P games, are!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go actually enjoy some video games.

Been a bit too busy to pop in the game, but the Cash-Shop doesn't give you any distinctions on what you already have/bought and what you don't have. So, there seems to be a danger of buying an item twice; this seems to apply especially to Subs before f2p.

Did they correct this already?

@Space Cobra

This is a known issue. If you happen to buy something you already own, petition support for a refund. They are working on a fix and DON'T want to double charge you.

What is this? This is EXACTLY why I harp on this Free-to-Play stuff all the time. F2P is inherently deceitful to the customer to coerce them into playing. I keep hearing about this free to play for CoX, and they conveniently don't tell people what exactly is going down with this setup.

I had 20+ characters between 25-50. All of them are blocked but one. Oh look I have 4 global unlock slots. I paid NCSoft to unlock the character slots YEARS ago. Now I have to pay them AGAIN to do the same thing? Having to pay for Global AND Server Slots? Give me a a break!

I'm definitely going to be analyzing this cash shop to find the "Bait and Switch" and Pay-to-Win. I already see it in the ever present "convenience" items EXP Booster, Influence Booters, AND drop rate booters.

You've made your joke NCSoft. That's all I can say. You've made your joke.

@blackcat7k

http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom/about-freedom/

They are completely open about what is included with each level of membership.

"Free to Play" is definitely a misnomer, I won't argue that. The whole point of the movement is to provide enough free things for players to get their feet wet. From there, players should decide if they want to pay for more, quit, or keep playing for free. A business model where everything is free is, obviously, not the best idea in the world.

Enhancement boosters provide about a 1-3% increase in the levels of the enhancement. Completely gamebreaking, am I right? Also, at Tier 9, you can get 25 per month with your reward token.

See I'm annoyed with the fact that they've locked me out of character slot that I've already purchased from them. Fine.

However, what I can't get over is how this is suppose to bring in new players when the free players are locked out of core gameplay like Inventions, and the Auction house that helps greatly in their creation. They don't even get a limited version of it. That's just poor all around and solidifies this game as now being Pay-to-Win.

So let me see... Gamers that brought this industry along have less and less time right now. They can't play the games long monotonous grind to the top where the game is really suppose to take off in the fabled "end game".

The developers sees this and instead of them changing progression, or changing the gameplay to match the player's time constraints their idea is...

to charge players to remove it?

Something is incredibly backwards with that thinking.

Entitlement much?

Six months ago, if you weren't paying a sub you got to play NONE of the ATs, NONE of the powersets.

Now, you can play 8 of them without paying a sub.

You get 90% of the game for free now, as opposed to before when you got NOTHING without paying a sub.

I don't care if you bought a City of Villain box at WalMart for $3000 in 2007; if you didn't pay a sub, you were entitled to jack squat after the first free month expires. No Masterminds. No Controllers. No Scrappers. NOTHING. The box has zero value without a subscription.

Now, you can play MOST of the ATs and power sets for FREE, unlock two more in time with the reward tokens or buy them immediately for a small free.

People sound like greedy children who got a coupon for a free slice of cake in their cereal box and are now complaining the slice of cake isn't big enough.

Guys this is how it works:

If you have made a Mastermind when you were a subscriber and you go F2P you can still used the MM provided you've unlocked that character slot. Free members get 2 slot unlocks by default, member who had subs probably will get more.

If you have enough Veteran Time banked you can unlock a lot more of the game features. I know people who were 6 year vets, who have most of the game unlocked. They can't do endgame and they have to buy the signature arcs but they can do pretty much everything else.

Having to buy slot unlocks is a pain to reuse old characters. Basically, they've changed VIP to "renting" 12+ slots per server per month.

Between this and the Champions Online F2P, I prefer this system to Champions Online.
