@lslp98

What about putting some kind of filter that automatically remove posts containing that domain instead of having people reporting them each article?

Have to say, I'm a fan of the Signature Story Arc.

Best reason? The Igneous Boss. Now my level 50 can finally earn his Volcanic badge. I might hunt in the Hollows for 2 Magmite lords in ten minutes, but taking 5 minutes to do mission #1 of the SSA and get a guaranteed Ig boss? Priceless.

Okay, I also like the mission overall. They threw in some interesting mechanics, and I'm looking forward to playing the villainside version at some point.

Best regards...

"Verdict: Cannot possibly be worse than what came before."

Oh, yes it can. They replaced the full tutorials that gave you more than enough info to get you going and taught you the basics (in goodly detail) with a two-minute tutorial + monster fight that seems to only exist to throw a physically-huge monster at you and doesn't really teach anyone anything. The supposed tutorial missions they added at level 5 (long after you need to be taught the basics!) aren't very good, either, as they don't really spend much time teaching you anything, as far as I could tell the one time I ran Twinshot's arc (never again!).

It was not worth the loss of Galaxy City (my preferred starting area as it was never overrun by spammers trying to get AE farms or sewer teams). :(

@The Ogre

As someone completely new to the game, I quite liked being just given the basics then thrown into the actual game. Sure, I've still got a lot to learn at just level 11, but I haven't been confused enough to ever ask for help. Anything not explained was easy enough to figure out.

Also, I quite like the Shining Stars, so there! =P

@The Ogre The full tutorials are replaced by the pop-up messages as you get while you are playing, which I do believe is a better approach. If you are completely new you are bound to have forgotten or missed something that was mentioned in the early tutorial at the time you need that information.
The big Shivan and the shivans right before that has the purpose of showing the multi-stage event/trial mechanics. Makes good sense to have that at the end of the tutorial zone IMHO.

That being said, the Dr Graves/Twinshot arcs (3 of each) are not very good efforts in teaching people something I believe. I guess the idea here was to cover the areas that pop-up messages cannot cover (e.g. changing difficulty setting at the Fateweaver) while playing some regular story arc.
I think they may have run out of time here, because the arcs, at least the 3 Dr Graves arcs, were pretty much the same as when they asked in beta to only comment on the first arc because they others were not ready for comments yet.
But I think only Twinshot got some minor tweaks, such as getting to Manticore's mansion through the train.

The starter areas in general I think are improvements for both sides.

I'm not really sure it's fair to brush off the issue as mediocre without having played through any of the new zone and mission content that it introduced. You pretty much just tried to sum-up an issue based on its quality of life changes and a VIP feature that's technically separate from the issue itself. Personally I'm liking the added story arcs, but I'm only about halfway through them on my main (yay Oroborous) so I may still run into something that really turns me off about them. You never know right.

That said, the new travel pools are pretty 'meh'. Nice if you have room for them in your build for the most part, but nothing spectacular.

So yea. Right after hitting submit I realized I was thinking I21 instead of the I21/freedom combo. So ignore my comment about the Signature Story Arc being separate from I21 since it's pretty much moot. Though it's still a very small portion of the mission content you mentioned in this article.

Yeah, this is a pretty weak review of new content when you don't bother to play half of it. It's like a movie critic writing his review half way through the film. Either review it all or none of it.

The SSA features Lost and Igneous, which don't show up much at all past level 20. That's the main reason it's TF-locked to the teen levels. Honestly, complaining about this seems kind of petty. The revamped Positron TF is locked at 15, but who complains about that?

And play First Ward. It's the best new zone they've ever made. The mission arcs will blow your mind.

@Stormwalker

Not to mention they want it to be in reach of new players - which level 20 is very soon - especially if you run the new low level sewer trial a few times.

Level 30 is too high for the first arc; but yeah, it was underwhelming - it would not get me to subscribe.

Eliot, I mean no offense here but you're reviewing features of a game that you never even played enough. Where's the Underground trial review? The new tutorial, from Galaxy City to the end of Twinshot/Dr. Graves' arc, INCLUDING Death from Below, takes all of about an hour to run through. You didn't have an hour to just run a disposable newbie through that stuff?

Although I cannot agree with Stormwalker. First Ward is great, don't get me wrong, but the best new zone ever? Eh, I wouldn't go that far. I enjoyed Croatoa (with Katie Hannon at the end) far more than First Ward. Then again, Croatoa had unique rewards at the end (witch's hat, Amy Jonsson) which I didn't see at all from First Ward. Haven't done Seed yet but I don't see it providing rewards on that level.

Signature Story Arc part 1 was a flop with me. Seriously, if they expect non-subscribers to pay for this crap, they either need to go overboard with the rewards or really come correct with the next six parts. Part 1 was just....a waste of time for me.

No mention of the new Incarnate trial? Or combat phasing for the new Atlas/Mercy missions? Various quality of life upgrades?

Quick note: My friends say the 5th Jumping power is actually really nice, although the recharge is a fairly long one. None of my characters have CJ, so I haven't tried it myself.

First Ward: ' I haven't heard anything overwhelmingly good or bad'

You've not been to the official forum then? There's a huge thread singing its praises! First Ward is just about the best zone in the game.

Well, you do realize that Synapse's task force caps out at 20th level, yes?

And also that 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 is a progression of seven numbers?

My guess is that for most of the arcs they're going to pair up the maximum level with the maximum level of the character that can run their TF, likely with the exception of Posi (whose TF is sub-20) and BaBs (who does not have a TF).
