I thought forcing your players OUT of your game and onto a web browser was a bad thing?

@heerobya

From what I understand, it'll be possible to access the web browser from inside the game. Besides, it's not a fantasy or future scifi world, TSW is our modern day world, where things like google and wikipedia and internet and web browsers exist.

That certainly changes thing.

An in-game browser like EvE has is a great addition, and if they are "requiring" players to hunt the interwebs for clues etc. it makes a lot of sense to keep it in game.

Hell, even have your toon pull out a smartphone or iPad or hit up a laptop/desktop to do it!

Immersion FTW

@paterah. From what I heard, Ragnar said they are CONSIDERING adding an in-game browser. I don't think its confirmed and certainly don't consider it to be a definite feature until its officially announced (as if its not implemented, people will no doubt scream that it was a promised feature which they have reneged on and curse Funcom until the end of time)

@Snichy You are right, I just wanted to confirm that they talked about it and are considering doing it.

Hmmm... I'd really like to try the beta before spending any money on this game.

I get annoyed when they talk about only 'convenience' items in the shop.
Well, what are convenience items?

Health potions CONVENIENT for PvP
EXP potions CONVENIENT for levelling
Teleports CONVENIENT for travelling

All those things are examples of stuff that shouldn't be in the game, but will be.

@BigAndShiny

The distinction is usually that convenience items are not "pay to win" items, which give the buyer a /game advantage/ over players who spend no money.

Now, you're right that buying Health potions could very much affect the outcome of PvP battles in favor of those who pay.

But XP potions merely allow players to level up faster; their characters aren't any better than non-paying characters of the same level, they simply get to those levels faster.

Likewise, Teleport potions allow a player to move a character from point A in the gameworld to point B much faster than a player who doesn't pay -- but (typically) these types of convenience items are just "fast zoning" items for speed in overland travel.

I've yet to see one which can be activated during a combat scenario.

So, that's why they're called convenience items, because they typically don't confer any sort of advantage /over/ other players.

But, as you say, Health potions in PvP could very welll end up being a pay-to-win purchase.

On the other hand, I've played games where health potions have a cooldown timer, so you can't just suck them back at will, as often as you like. We may need to wait and see exactly how these purchases work in-game.

@BigAndShiny I'm cool with everything on that list except Health Pots. I don't want pay to win items and that sounds like an item that could quickly become mandatory to have competitive success in PVP.

XP Boost however is not. So they hit max level a week faster than me? That's no big deal in the long run.

While the setting and the mood of the game is what got me interested it's the skill system that got me hooked. It's like GW's but on steroids.

Sorry Ragnar, Morrison just told us yesterday that no real innovation was coming in the next wave of games. I'm certainly not going to invest in your version of the same old thing, especially if it's sub + cs.

Well I hope people don't harp on the cash shop thing forever. I mean, yeah it sucks, but who knows? Maybe the game will turn out pretty good despite that.

They can and they will, people have and always will complain about cs in mmos forever, so long as it's part of the genre. Me, I don't care I'm gonna play the game, if it's fun I'll stay for a while if not I got plenty of other options.

@Lucidus

I don't think the equation is as simple as: fun / money = entertainment. There's always more to consider when choosing an MMO to frequent.

That said, I agree with your conclusion so far in the case of TSW. I just hope every thread about the game doesn't go off on a cash shop tangent. Y'know, for the fans' sake.

Are you crazy?
Judging a game for its content and not for something that, for what we know, could not even affect you?
You're not a real MMORPG player!
Real MMORPG players will spend the next 6 month incessantly whining about the cashshop in every article about TSW!
