@Janitor
Haha that was funny.

On topic though, I think an achievement system today is pretty much assumed and taken for granted. Its there for the people who want it, and does not affect the gameplay of people who ignore achievements.

@h4ngedm4n I agree. I am not one for achievements much unless you get something out of them. Ironically you do....a lot of achievements make you explore, and with that said, so you find a lot of hidden gems and places that are just magnificent. Everything aside...I hate how you can't delete postings..my joke could/would have been funnier =( Leai-on-Luke action, achievement unlocked!

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise. TOR is remarkably generic. Who didn't see achievements coming for a game so cookie cutter?

@Nenene

Bioware has achievements in some of their other games, so nothing new here.

I think that's kind of the point.

@Nenene you know if they didn't put them in there'd be an armada of forum trolls saying, "What? No achievements? Steam/Xbox Live/PSN/WoW/Rift/Your Mom has achievements! Boo this game!"

And if they do put them in, people like you say, "Gee, how generic. I am not sure I can support a company that caters to the whims of the masses!"

And as soon as BioWare decides to stop catering to the whims of the masses, everyone will say, "BioWare doesn't listen to what the fans want and just make decisions on their own!"

In short, whatever the developers do, someone will find some reason to gripe about it.

@Nenene soooo ..they should not include them to um, NOT be generic?, um ....
Achievements were always gonna be in this game, just because they actually announced them is hardy a reason to complain about lack of originality. For all we know, they could be done in an original way ..probly not, but really it makes little difference.

Personally, i couldn't less about achievements, i think they are usually just artificial ways to make you grind stuff in MMO's -but i dont resent BW for announcing them.

Well achievements are in like more than half of games nowadays both single player , multiplayer and mmo. Actually in mmorpg achievements are like in most of them ,so can you even imagine themepark mmorpg WITHOUT achievements nowadays?

@CZL

There's an old saying which goes, "Damned if you do, damned if you don't". I think that's exactly what SWTOR is facing these days, as you suggest.

Yeah, no matter what they did here Bioware would receive flak. I do like achievements from a personal sense. However, I got annoyed at the WoW Pug raids that wanted achievements before sending you an invite. I am interested in seeing what the Bioware system looks like.

3D graphics are so cookie cutter. Let's go back to ascii because no one else is doing it anymore. We'll be so retro and outside the mold!

I just started playing Jade Empire, on PC, for first time. It is interesting but man.....having to get used to how camera's were once = not that fun...

@Janitor Mostly that's a porting issue. Console ports almost always have some sort of weird control issues or a bad UI for PC. I know it sounds weird to suggest in a RPG, but try a game pad - that game was made to use one, and it makes using all your abilities so much easier. Fun game, btw.

@Resurge i am using my tron gamepad (so sick) its the type of camera where u can only look left or right, can't really make it an actual camera like MMOs these days (click and hold and move it all over the place). i dunno what to call it..."look over your shoulder-only cam" ? lol =)

Not a big fan of achievments in mmo games. What often happens is that people run around doing often boring things they donĀ“t really want to do just to get an extra achievment.

It is cheap "content" extension from devs :(

@Verus

Well that happens eventually anyway. Even "substantial" content gets boring if you do it enough. Achievements are just an extra thing to do. Some will like them and have fun, others will just grind them. Y'know like with any MMO content
