Brilliant.

Don't trust "the mob" of public opinion, the mob is stupid and fickle.

Trust yourselves as the top-notch designers you are.

Takes balls to come out and say it, but I agree.

@heerobya The top notch designers who thought a rail shooter = space combat?

@Lucidus good lord ..its a MINIGAME for FUN! it is NOT 100% realistic "Space Combat" and no one ever said it was supposed to be. It is supposed to be a neat way of moving around, cool housing, and a fun minigame. THAT'S IT.

Just because you have grand expectations does not mean they are required to live up to them. They never promised you interesting immersive realistic space combat. I guess you'd be happier with no ships at all?

@heerobya Probably not the most popular of opinions in an environment where everybody thinks their voice is important, but you know what? I pretty much have to agree as well. I think that testing is important for QA and even UI stuff, but as far as game mechanics and core features go I think more developers need to stick to their original concepts.

@chauncy

Exactly - we here and on the other mmo community sites are very vocal and think we know all the answers...

But then why don't we work in the industry?

No it doesn't take balls to say that, anyone can say "My decisions are awesome!"

What is going to take balls is owning up to that statement when something goes wrong. Both sticking to your guns and being open to the idea that you might not have been right after all.

What takes balls is re-examining your position and admitting that your awesome decision wasn't as you convinced yourself it was.

You learn nothing from success, you learn from failure.
No balls have dropped today this is still just at the bravado stage.

@Resurge Relegating space combat to a "minigame" is one of the design flaws of the game.

@Lucidus I really don't see why. It's not EVE online, and it shouldn't try to be.

@(Unverified) But it is a game based on a franchise where one of the most pivotal parts of the lore are space battles. You take space out of star wars and you probably only have three movies, if that.

I know, right? God, it's not like some fox was flying around in space on rails and ended up breaking the 5-day sales records set by Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64. You're so right, space rails combat must be some sort of awful gimmick that nobody will ever like.

@Lucidus How is it a "design flaw"? It is supposed to be an accessible, enjoyable minigame and it checks all of those boxes. Just because you don't agree with something doesn't mean it's a "design flaw" it just means you don't agree with it (which is fine by the way).

This is precisely why I'm glad BioWare aren't listening to the mob on absolutely everything - the mob polarizes and makes ridiculous points and in the end doesn't know what it's talking about. SOE listened to the mob with SWG and look how that turned out.

@Ren54
Well, Cysis 2 is just a ripoff of Mario Party 6 from 2004 so maybe they should make their ground combat like NBA Jam.

^also an equally nonsensical statement full of bad logic and false information. Why are we doing this again?

According to you.

I am glad it is NOT a flight sim because the flight sim they put in galaxies was PISS POOR.

If someone wants to do a full on Star Wars flight sim, I am ALL for it but don't tack it onto a MMORPG.

@Resurge

Well we are a bunch of game that have plade space MMO like SWG, EVE etc and take SWG Star Wars Galaxie that old game have better space content then it seams in SWTOR, And we have the right to demand a better space part in this game this is a new game not a remake of SWG, and as it is now is the fealing that the space part is like a arcade game from the amiga and comandore time and that sound not like the epiq game devs are talking about when they get time to talk about the game!

Yeah, the mob is rarely correct. You end up with a mess trying to follow them (see woW Cata).

@Resurge 'Realistic' space combat? lol I take you actually mean space combat that supposed to evoke the feeling of the space battles in the Star Wars movies.

Unfortunately, a Starfox 64 mini-game doesn't accomplish that.

Even Cryptic understood the importance of space combat when they did Star Trek Online. This is an area where Bioware really missed the target.

@Lucidus Clearly they understand the concept of a limited budget and finite resources. One day, when you move out of your mother's basement and actually have to fend for yourself out in the real world, you too, may come to understand the same concept.

@Yellowdancer One could translate it as: "Don't listen to the beta testers who are saying the game is buggy as hell."
