Significant change is afoot in EVE Online, and no, we're not just talking about the latest clothing item on the Noble Exchange or additional captain's quarters built on top of Incarna's foundation. A brief blog post on the official website indicates that CCP has taken the firestorm of criticism from long-time players over the last several months to heart.
While it's not quite a mea culpa, CCP Zulu does say that the company has been engaging in an "extensive and intense introspection and revitalization. The result of this is a refocusing and reprioritization on a scale unheard of within our company."
How extensive (and how intense)? That remains to be seen, of course, but the post points to the recent ship-spinning update and also goes a step further. "We are listening to you, we have heard you, and plans are already in motion," Zulu writes.

Interesting...
Lip service or actually "extensive and intense?"
Hopefully extensive and intense enough to develop enough new stuff to make me want to come back to EVE.

EVE Online is probably WoW's only real serious long-term rival and contender so I can understand why CCP don't want to mess it up, EVE has become a fairly sacred MMO.

@dudes Actually I agree with him, sure it doesn't have the subscriberbase to actually qualify as a signifigant rival, but nevertheless, there aren't exactly tons of MMO's left alive from the early 2000's era - or even newer ones.

You do realize that WoW grosses over 100 million a year while EVE is lucky to do 8 million? I hardly see how you can compare the two. Activision/blizzard releases 5-15 games a year while CCP releases 1 ever 3-4 years.
Back to the topic, I think CCP is probably one of the worst managed companies out there. Whoever decided to make a console game as a sequel to their PC title must have had some good drugs in their system. "Greed is good" you say? Might as well have said "Drugs are good", least would have made more sense to their player base.
All I can say is "good, fix your game". I'll believe it when i see it...

Less than a million subs vs 11 times that at least...so much competition there.

You don't know the different priorities a Publisher and a Game Studio should have do you?
Portfolio and IP are not the same, go look it up.
Also, while you're at it, go look up the success of IP's that drastically change their formula, design and form.

Getting tired of people making erroneous assumptions about WoW's revenue. You can't simply multiply their number of subscribers by the average monthly subscription fee. Only a portion pay Blizzard in this way. Most, particularly those in Asia, play with purchased game cards. Their monthly revenue is certainly nothing to laugh about, but it is well below your projections.

@dudes I agree with this. Sure WoW probably makes a whole ton more money, but WoW and Eve are only similar in that they are MMO's, but not direct competitors in that they are two different genres, and have very different game mechanics.
Hence why EVE has lasted so long while some others that are too closely related to WoW in both genre and game mechanics have failed.

I really dont find any validity in your 1 sentence snide remark. Maybe you would care to do a little research into their quarterly earning before pretending to be some kind of "expert" on the subject. I merely pointed out comparing the two companies was a little like comparing elephants to ants.
Diversification?> Is that what you call a niche market game made by an indy but wanna be AAA game maker? Interesting...

Hopefully this means more focus on internet space ships and less fluff

Why not?
There haven't been serious updates to the FiS portion of EVE for quite awhile now. (and that of course can be argued of course)
I think this winter update will really show if CCP can turn the party train around enough, and put in some serious game play content.
