This data means nothing. I can download at 3 megabytes a second, but the moment Pando starts I can only download at 500 kb/s. Pando tampers with the results and makes them inaccurate.

@kunic And yet for me, Pando and Steam are my fastest download services. I've tried everything, but can't increase my overall speed.

@kunic

That may be true, but seeing countries like Sweden, South Korea, Latvia, Japan and Denmark up there, I would say that these results are pretty much similar to those reached by other companies.

I sometimes wish i was born in South Korea.

Just imagine being a MMO player there:
The fastest internet speed in the world.
Internet cafes freaking everywhere.
Gaming is not a hobby for awkward people, but a normal, socially acknowledged everyday activity.
You get your games fresh and NOT 4 years after its out somewhere else.
The developers actually listen a bit to your feedback.
You dont have to try to understand the translations because there arent any.

Their country is pretty wealthy too.

You forgot: Their games sucks, they're an endlessly grind, they're all the same, they're all cash shops with pay-to-win items, their graphics are a thousand years behind, their gameplay is never innovative... do you need more? lol

Don't forget, you share a border with one of the world's greatest madmen.

@Dumac Heh, this. It's not the first time I see us in the top of the rankings and I'm pleasantly surprised that we're scoring high for something GOOD this time around.

Of course, things like Internet speed, overall quality of the fiber-cable network and a growing population of urban young professionals means precisely zero when some digital distribution schemes still treat this place (and just about anything to the east of Germany, come to think of it) like the backwater to end all backwaters. But by this point I'm just so fed up with the situation that I can't even be angry anymore, just annoyed.

We better enjoy it while it lasts. :)

@Rhodanum
So true... many of Blizzard's WoW services (like Recruit a Friend for example) are not available here, for a reason I strongly believe has to do with not giving a crap about this region. We can also remember the XBOX Live issue a few years ago. This is also why I'm not going to buy SW:TOR, considering they do not give us access to the pre-orders.

In the end it's their loss.

Pando makes my games crash if I don't remove it after it's done it's downloading. No idea why. I've learned to dread seeing "install pando media booster" for certain games. Drives me nuts.

@MMOaddict Yep, my PC hates pando media booster too, I can't play any game that uses it.

speed test says my 25.65mbit down and 5.04 up is 89 % better then national speed and 89% global. It also does this without installing software I have to remove from my computer after installing many games.

Once again, an article with no useful sources... The "Pando Networks" link in the article goes to the internal Massively search. The "source" link goes to a hosted version of the last image.

Why can't we get a link to the actual study?

@potaco Because such a link doesn't exist. What we have was emailed to us to post exclusively and isn't online anywhere else yet, and Massively isn't really in the business of distributing powerpoint presentations anyway.

speedguide.net also has some pretty useful speedtest results of various internet providers in the world with info like ping and bandwidth. http://www.speedguide.net/speedtest/stats_hosts.php

soooo ...countries the size of small US states have better internet? Big surprise. Look at the land mass of the US, and compare to any of the top ten on that list, and the first thing I notice is that there is not one country larger than Massachusetts listed. Not all small countries have great internet, but almost as a rule - large countries have slow internet - at least in these lists. The fact that we have to average in all the rural communities on satellite/dial-up into the US numbers doesn't help our ranking a bit :) I'd be more interested in seeing how the largest cities around the world compare directly. New York vs London, Moscow vs Tokyo ..etc.etc.

@Resurge You'll be deeply disappointed if you seriously think that you're going to see US cities going head-to-head with places like Tokyo, Seoul, etc. and winning, or anything close. The US is backward, antiquated, 3rd world, just accept it. This is what laissez-faire gets you. These companies have whined repeatedly to their bought-and-paid-for congress that they need (more) special tax breaks to improve systems, they get their breaks and they then use them to take (more) profits and -NOT- do the work they claimed they would use it for. Rinse/repeat.

@Resurge actually i just noticed the city list, unfortunately, they let more than one city from each country on it, so its all Brazil for lows and S Korea for highs..somehow Andover, (MA, I guess?) got on the list as well. I'm guessing there's a reason i don't know there.

PS: whats with the southern Hemisphere? why is there not any decent internet south of the equator (according to the charts up there)? Is there a reason for that?
