I just recently tried to give this game a go again (I played for a few months after launch) and it's so different now I don't even know where to start. Apparently there is a whole MMORPG gear collecting dynamic now, as my higher level characters are missing most of their guns and gadgets.

Can any current players tell me how hard this game is to get back in to? I don't particularly feel like grinding for new equipment or playing competitive matches where people have much better 'stuff' than me.

@Damn Dirty Ape um, unless somethings changed in the last cpl months, you play pvp matches or pve instances to earn tokens, use said tokens to buy stuff - easy peasy. If you are elite (subscribed at any time or paid once to become elite)you get a random drop at the end if you win. If you buy the booster packs, you get a 2nd random loot drop. You also get more tokens with either of these options, and access to the AH/mail etc.

Also ...lvl 1-30 is separate from 30+ in pvp, and many items are account bound so you only have to buy them once to use on all characters (dyes, trails, flair stuff, pretty much anything not specific to one class). The stuff that drops in open world pve (pre this expansion i havent played yet) is just green low level items to get you started and teach you the basics of the game.

If you are confused, just make a lvl 1 and go play a bit, you will catch on pretty fast.

@Resurge

Damn dirty ape started at the very start of this game, most likely: Back where you put points into certain items and it increased their power level, and you only had so many points. Now you can have the highest everything, but you have to grind/tweak them all to be just right.

Let me answer your question, Dirty. The system that we had originally with the item points is gone forever. Instead you use your money to buy weapons and upgrades and whatnot. It's going to take you a few weeks to build up an absolute arsenal, at least from my experience, and that's not counting tokens. I gave up a loooong time ago, though I will admit, the game is still fun. It's just nowhere near as balanced now, as a long time player can, and will, destroy you.

@(Unverified) Unfortunately T:A will be the same, that is if you don't want to buy all your load-outs. In game currency will allow you to buy them also; however to get people to want to buy load-outs the grind is going to be just awful enough to get your money. Another downfall (imo) is the 2 weapon limit, and the pre-selecting load-outs before the match. No mods, no pservers, no maps is a shame!

The game will probably be pretty fun, and bring newer people to the franchise, but not as fun as T1 or T2 for the vets - I know I am disappointed.

@drunkingamebar

Same here. The fact we'll never have a return of (Ultra) Renegades, Meltdown, or Shifter kills me. Like you said, it's going to be fun, but nowhere near as fun as some of the stuff the community came up with. This is just going to be base, base, and more base, with a shade of 2 weapon "Hey we're Sci-Fi Call of Duty" weapons loadouts.

Just loaded Steam and looked at the download size for the update. 3 gigs.

Unless Steam is going crazy somehow, then that is a HUGE update.

Yah, it's a big update!

It IS an underrated game. I got started a few weeks ago by chance because a friend picked it up thinking *I* already had it (yes, Steam said I owned the game even though I never even looked at it...sneaky!). So, I decided to give it a go.

Even though at first I found it to be sparse, it grew on me. Apparently the PvE open world was added just this year, so most of the new content I was playing was new. I'm mostly a PvE person, but I have played their PvP on occasion. I LOVE their 10 person PvE raids, you just queue up for it and off you go. They're defensive raids, so basically you settle back and start killing waves of enemies.

It is fun although demanding skillwise, since PvE group missions are limited to 4 people, so you do have to pull your own weight. It's a very fun departure from the normal MMO tab targeting, since aiming and leading your shots DOES count. Too bad head shots don't hurt more than body shots, but that's a minor quibble.

Going F2P was a good move for them, they certainly got my Elite Agent money, and I've had a blast with it. I wouldn't have tried out the game otherwise.
