It's time for players to advance once again in the latest update to Final Fantasy XI. Another increase to the game's level cap has gone live with this patch, with the new cap set to 95, just a stone's throw away from the promised height of 99. But the addition of the newer cap and all that it entails isn't the only thing of note with this update, which includes new battlefields, the next installment in the Voidwatch battles, and of course a plethora of new items and balance tweaks.
Along with those major changes comes a host of smaller updates, including a long list of items that can be sent through the mail to other characters on the same account and the addition of Grounds of Valor tomes to several areas previously lacking them. Dynamis has also received another pass of updates, up to and including the option for players to resell any timeless hourglasses they no longer have a use for. It's a good day to be a Final Fantasy XI player, even if waiting for the update to download might feel like an eternity.

Yeah the progress, however apparent, is taking far too long. 1.18 was a huge improvement and pulled me back into the game for a couple weeks but all it really accomplished was allowing me less painful means of grinding, which was nice and all but ultimately still no real reason to bother.
My brother and friend recently restarted in FFXI and I'm admittedly tempted to do the same. Unfortunately being stuck all the way back at 75 seems like a daunting task to overcome.
Either way, the fall is too full of anticipated games to devote myself to any given MMO. The summer drought would have been the ideal time, but opportunity missed.

You can get to cap in a weekend.
In fact, you could level 1-cap in a weekend if you could get to 30 (Abyssea) fast enough.

not much of new content in this update
raise the level cap but no new zones and just one new designed mob
but wont complain much since the update fixed many stuff needed to fix from the old team leftovers

Until they actually release new CONTENT, then I won't be going back. I've had my fill with Abyssea, and I want something new to do.
