Anyway, I look foward to the 8th profession. I PRAY the Mesmer be it! Otherwise, it'll be a Guardian, Warrior or Necro for me.

God damn. I can't wait for this game!

@Faction 3

Well it has to be Mesmer for the last profession.

Why?
- No Monk. Dedicated healer class is gone. Elements incorporated into the Guardian
- Professions of Cantha and Elona are not coming back since ArenaNet is not visitng those continents

There's also the concept art they released of the purple woman with a fan, and butterflies everywhere. Looks very mesmeresque.

Yep. Also have to keep in mind the blatent 'denial' of the Mesmer class by the developers on top of the 'mind trick' hints given in the various interviews.

@nightsong89 add to that mesmers are mentioned in the book.

secondarily, taken straight from the GW2 wiki:

"There is one scholar profession left to be revealed; it's confirmed to be a returning Guild Wars profession.[9] This last profession is "kind of complex and definitely plays differently than other professions" [10], and will also best fulfill the expectations of mesmer fans. [11] It is said it will be revealed before the end of the year. [12]"

I think it has to be Mesmer, or Rubi will get all 'Hulk smash!', right? :D

@nightsong89 Not true. The Thief is a build based on the ever-popular assassin. I'm sure somewhere down the road cantha and elona will be opened up again. And even though there's no monk they had builds that encorporated that playstyle. Mesmer is a unique profession that few MMOs have ever even tried.

I think the whole reason for the hang-up has been that they took energy out. How can you have a Mesmer with no energy? Tough question.

I loved asura week. In fact, my opinion of the asura have changed so much for the better in the past few months. I've never been a "miniature" race fan, but I think ArenaNet might just change my views with the asura.

Also Rubi, I know you've been very critical towards the quality of the voice work in general. I'm rather interested to know what your thoughts are on the voice clips we got during last week. Better or worse than the other race weeks, or more of the same?

Thanks for great article, as always :)

@Makovorn

I know you asked rubi, but I think the voice work for the Asura were the most disappointing.

My problem with them is that they don't SOUND acted, they sound like humans talking like humans. Not a miniature asura talking like an asura.
I'm not asking for a squeely high pitched thing necessarily, and who am I to say how asura talk. But Vekk and Zinn fill the asura archetype for me. Mad scientists, not tokyo schoolgirls or epic humans.

I absolutely love the new Rata Sum. It's a giant freaking club that is floating over the ruins that was the inital Rata Sum from GW1.

As for the Asura race, definately my favorite race so far. Their whole culture is wonderful and different from the other races of GW2.

I totally agree with you on the size perspective Rubi. As it so happened in GW1 I had just gotten to Rata Sum, when asura week was announced, and I got to see the "before" shot prior to the video being released. All I can say is WOW.

I notice a similar effect with Lion's Arch. Even though the one we see in GW1 looks marginally big, it is clear that 250 years later they have really gone over the top.

WTB.... beta key soon! Come on ANet... After the 8th profession you got no more to hold back on. LOL

There is a map that we have been shown that the GW1 Lion's Arch sits at the bottom of the bay in the GW2 Lion's Arch. The new Lion's Arch looks at least 4 times bigger than the old.

I don't think the Inquest is a poke at real world government but rather a poke at real-world corporations if they had no imitations placed on them. The Inquest has also been repeatedly referred to as corporation as well.

Real world corporate scientists know that any discoveries they make belong to the company, which is along the lines of the Inquest. Big corporations swallow up smaller companies to get control of their innovations which sounds mush like the Inquest's methods. Also a government (unless it's a dictatorship) is answerable to the people. The Inquest does not sound as though it is answerable to anyone but itself.

If the Inquest does take over asura society they will become the government, of course, but I suspect we will see more parallels in the Inquest with real world corporations, such a ruling board, rather than similarities to tyrannical government systems.

Whoops. All that typing over a misread line. The blog was referring to the Council as a poke at real-world government, not the Inquest. Sorry about that.

I bet the Eight Profession is a Mesmer based class and the reason it wasn't revealed shortly after the engineer was because they took energy out.

Too bad really, I liked energy, and I loved the idea of the Mesmer in the original Guild Wars. Such a unique character type, nothing like it in any other MMO in regards to playstyle.

Saying the Inquest is not evil is like saying the mafia is not evil. Of course they're evil. People need to stop saying the twisted racial groups are not evil, when of course they are, they're the bad guys folks.

The asura don't want to destroy, they want to rule. Its the charr that like to destroy. Asura need the other races to do the hard labor, not everything can be done by golems. That and golems are expensive, bookah are cheap in comparison.

YAY Rubi, another great series of articles ty.

Im definately rolling at least one(Im an altaholic lol). The whole 'mad scientist' gig has me hooked and the snark factor, cant forget that! lol Once again GW2 has me with the awe and beauty of the screenies and environment fly thru's. But the lil story's they've dropped with the Asura for backstory were great and hooked me even harder; Mr. Sparkles lol classic. Love the humor in those...

As for the 8th profession... Im guessing it'll have many of the tropes we've become accustomed to in GW, you know the, performer, society upper crust, ect. But, I think it'll be more of a 'slieght of hand' profession rather than just a magic based class. Think more prestidigitator over magiker. I dont think they could really expect to be rid of the Mesmers that easily...

Peace all...

You were curious about the monitors that the asura were gathered around in the fly through video... what it they were for the Marketplace (Auction House) ???

I don't know why, but that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw them.
