I always do get a laugh when people complain about a game not being the same as every other game out there. Heaven forbid a game be unique and appeal to a niche audience that isn't you (not you specifically, the general "you"); it's not like there aren't plenty of other clone MMOs out there.

The people who do that, are the people who AREN'T complaining about the release of a new game as well though. So it may be funny to those who are wanting new with games, just like people wanting new is funny to those comfortable with the tried and true.

Then, of course, you get people who are fine with both and notice how people do that, and then people who hate games in general (*coughcoughFoxNewscough*) who find nothing but exploitable resources in their announcements and release.

Nah, it's still funny because if they wanted to play tried and true then those games already exist. Why someone would WANT future MMOs to copy existing games when those games are already out there waiting to be played is beyond me.

I only read about 1/3 of your post because it was an incoherent mess, so Ill just say this: I've played all of the WoD table top games, and the only one I didn't really enjoy much was Wraith (but I kind of get the feeling that being bored was the core of that game anyway).

That doesn't mean that I want to be forced to RP, especially because the definition of proper roleplay is so arbitrary. The best RP groups I've ever been in felt free to occasionally engage in silly, nerdy, break the fourth wall humor that's the furthest thing from "serious" role play.

It is, after all, a game.

I don't want to be forced to abide by some one else's rules for what's in the proper spirit of RP and what's not.

Interesting promises, a hardcore roleplaying game with potential consequences and final death in an adult environment with nudity, gore and insanity effects sounds great.

Of course, many, many games have promised much during the development phase so I shall remain cautiously optimistic.

Agreed.

WoW - "Cataclysm will bring about a whole new, lasting experience in a newly remodeled world."
WAR - "The rest of the planned content will be ready shortly after release."
Aion - "We're going to "westernize" the game."
Rift - "We're not going to balance the game through nerfs and/or lowering difficulties in dungeons."
EVE - "Very soon players will be able to board and walk around stations (still haven't gotten the captain's quarters working right last I knew, correct me if I'm wrong)."

MMORPGS in all departments have been sluggish in everything as of late. All of them have fizzled, including "can-do-no-wrong" WoW and Cata.

@ChaosInc I no longer play WoW, but I'm not clear on what you think they promised with Cata that they didn't deliver contentwise.

The issue was that people, for some reason, expected Cataclysm to magically make the game fun for people that didn't already enjoying it; instead of just providing renewed content.

Yeah. The overhaul of the 1-60 zones appeared to have been meant as a jumping on point for new players, and a revitalization of the old world for people who level alts rather than grind the endgame. A lot of the work was undone by the crazy rate of speed with which new characters gain levels. You end up skipping the content that received the most polish, and wondering where the content you paid for is.

Remember the initial trailer? The one that promised greater customization of our characters through the Path of the Titans and archeology by granting access to non-class related skill-trees? Guild Talent Trees that allowed people to specialize their guilds in ways that made it clear how they wanted them to focus? Rated Battlegrounds that focused on individuals and not the team?
All of which was gutted quickly and quietly, while they continued to play this same initial trailer?

Actually I think it's more like most of us expected far more for our monies worth. As it was we got the most expensive expansion for Warcraft ever, retailing at the same price as completely new titles, that gave us the least content ever.

5 Levels, just as many zones and less end game instances than any expansion pack ever was never going to keep the punters happy.

This is so wrong it's unbelievable.

Let me guess; you're one of those "you could do the reworked 1-60 content without needing to pay for the expansion, so it's not actually part of the expansion lol!" people.

Thing is that all this work put into 1-60 zones is wasted with idiotically fast levelling in Cata making you miss most of it.
But well WoW is already finished for me anyway , and it will continue to lose ground in the west.

If there were any doubts about the direction and goals of CCP’s next MMORPG, it looks like they may now be squashed . Sounds to me like CCP is going to keep their World of Darkness a complex one. Even better, and to me more surprising, CCP isn’t going mainstream commercial with their second MMO. The inclusion of the ‘final death’ or Permadeath is a hardcore decision, and one I love!

I CAN'T WAIT!

Going into TORPOR until release.

@JediPagan I wouldnt bet on this... did you miss the corporate newsletter "Greed is good" ?

Unless they stay far away from the pay-to-win business model and been quite clear about this (no lawyerspeak vague promises) i wont touch this game with a 10 foot pole.

For all the criticisms being lobbied at CCP at times I still have respect for them. While most companies will want to cater to a mainstream audience they right for the jugular of the hardcore player base.

Nudity, gore and insanity effects ... That alone will sell WDarkness like hotcakes - at least starting off. But can they get away with it on an MMO level?

Not too mention, their flagship Eve ONline MMO has been anemic lately- many claim because subscriber money and resources were being pumped into WDarkness...

Looks like CCP is staying true to WoD and yes I like the permadeath as it will keep the jerks away.I honestly can't wait to see the forums with lots of rants and whines.

I'll cautiously follow the game and see how things evolves.
