Given the strength of roleplaying communities versus everyone else in nearly every MMO to date, I'm not sure I have much faith in their claim to emulate a LARP. It's not that I think it's a bad idea or an unworthy goal, it's just I don't have faith in peoples ability to play along and building an entire major game around this concept seems a futile effort.

If there's one thing I've noticed with RP servers to date, it's that a lot of people ever on those servers couldn't give a toss about the ruleset and selfishly refuse to play along with the people who are there for the actual reason the server exists.

Frankly, I don't expect it'll be too long until you have a posse of PVP'ers determined to reduce the game to a quake clone with Vampires. They'll probably go one step further and demand 5 versus 5 arena's as the "true test" of PVP skill, while all thought of the game as a digital progression of the World of Darkness P&P game is forgotten in their Kill/Death ratio obsessed minds.

It makes me weep.

It's refreshing to see a developer trying to develop a game system that supports the IP, rather than the other way around. Insanity and permanent death? I'm interested.

Not too surprising considering most of the people in charge of the design are people who worked for White Wolf long before the merger. ;)

How are you supposed to be a proper hunter if you can't go after the leeches during the day?

Essentially forcing RP, permadeath, constant PvP... so many bad decisions from a company that's made so many good ones before. I'm almost shocked.

Those are very bold decisions, but I wouldn't call them outright bad. I know many players who have wanting something like that for years.

@Apakal Bad decisions is a matter of opinion. I for one am looking forward to it. The things there setting out to do mesh completely with the IP, at least they're not turning it to another grind from quest hub to quest hub and raid MMO.

It's not 'constant PvP' in the sense of always physically fighting other player characters. What they mean is that you'll be struggling against other players in social interactions. It's also not permadeath all over the place, just in certain scenarios you're encouraged by game design to avoid anyway.

As for forcing RP? ABOUT TIME SOMEONE DID. Hell, it's not even forcing it in the sense that they'll necessarily punish you for talking out of character. It's just that the core of the game design is based around social interaction.

Permadeath gets my backing for a Vampire but ONLY if diablerie is included. If a vampire's soul is consumed no way that sucker is coming back.

Permadeath for mortal players would be a nightmare but would force a player to take better care of the avatar that way. No random jumps off buildings for kicks, for exmaple. Unless you are into that kind of thing. Which I am not.

Sorry, but I've been hearing about this game for YEARS now (at least 3-4). It's vaporware to me till I see in-game footage.

@Oyjord I don't think you actually understand what vaporware is. I'd explain it to you, but ya...no.

Unless they changed their mind and it is going to be P2P , and not F2P I am not interested.

Without cash shop that is , but since "greed is good" CCP approach I can see this title heavily monetarized with cash shop and microtransactions , propably on top of subscription.

I hope I am wrong , well anyway I don't have my hopes up.

You seem to be confusing this game with Dust 514, WHICH is F2P for two reasons.
1) You don't exactly see any functional console-based MMOs around, at least ones that are still played on the console
and
2) The whole premise of the game is heavily reliant on having a lot of players, and I mean a lot, for it to work. You won't be getting an army of players by making them pay $10-15 a month.

Hope you're right. I will be very reserved though , becasue of what CCP is lately , "greed is good newsletter" , CCP Himlar e-mail , and general attitude towards EVE really put me off.

I played f2p mmorpg's and lately even freemium ones (Lotro) , but I cannot stomach them anymore.

So if WoD will go pure P2P there is good chance I will buy it or at least I will be very interested. If it will be freemium or f2p then nope, I could not stomach themeparks with freemium / f2p , so I cannot even imagine game that are bit on 'hardcore' side with this model working for me :/

Eh... not sure If I can exactly trust them. A recent Eve article on this site did make a good point of how many of the Eve expansions have been little more than bones for some grandiose structure that never gets the meat it needs to stand out.

They are promising a lot, and I mean A LOT, with this... and I don't think they'll be able to deliver.

Holy RPG batman! Here I thought WoD would be wow clone emovampire dress-up.. Sounds like they are actually going for proper world of darkness experience instead of cashing in easy.

All the whiners about "forced RP", constant PvP and "ZOMG PERMADEATH" have either a) never played a GOOD WoD game or b) never played in the first place.

It's amusing to watch all the WoW fanboys start frothing over this. "ZOMG, WERZ MY ARENA?!?! WERZ MY FLYING MOUNTS?!?!? ZOMGWTFCOPTER WERZ MY GEARSCOREZZZZ!!?!11?1!!??1"

WoD has never been "who's the most badass with the epics". It's about the story and the interweaving of one's character in it. Those looking for WoW with vampires are going to be extremely butthurt over this and I give it a month after release before forums everywhere are flooded with "THE GAME IZ DOOOOOOOOOOOM! IT HAZ NO 10 MIL CHINA SUBS!!!"

Yes, it's going to be a niche game and probably won't cap in the millions. But apparently that's a failed game; Seriously, just ask EVE! I hope the systems and overall gameplay delivers to the hype, because everything to date has fallen short. Time will tell.

In the meantime, feel free to head on back and keep farming up those tokens for the vending machine full-o-epics while the rest of us wait for a game where it focuses on something other than spreadsheet numbers for awesome.
