I definately like where this is going. If they can pull this off it will be a shot in the arm for the sandbox.

Although I'll wait and see what pricing model they intend to have before I become too interested in it.

"However, if a player of one faction ventures into the lands of another faction, s/he will be flagged for PvP while the natives won't be. Also, if you choose to take action against a flagged player in your own lands (remember, such players can't touch you first), you will become flagged as well and vulnerable to attack. Basically, if you choose to attack, you have to face the consequences. In a nutshell, players will only engage in PvP by their own choice; PvP will not be thrust upon anyone."

OMFG someone actually finally gets it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn you MJ *shakes fist* Now another game for me to follow for the next year!...nice write up by the way :)

Please follow through and deliver Burning Dog...please!

This does sound good and I really hope they can pull it off. We know they can not please us all but if their vision for the game is a pure as this article indicates, they will earn the respect and following of countless disillusioned gamers.

"To create a game with soul."
"As much as we want to make the game everything, we can't because that just waters it down."
"We want to make it fun, not hard just for the sake of hard."
"We don't want to see clones everywhere."
"The whole auction house thing is simple and straightforward, but it kills the community. It's disconnected. You want people to be interacting with each other."

From the crafting to the housing to the 3faction player base...it all sounds to good to be true.

And PERMADEATH?
Ya baby...you got some big brass ones you want to prove yourself with?? "you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" Well don't hang around in some safe place and gank players to get your epeen on while hiding behind broken mechanics...step up or shut up! Just what the PvP community really needs as far as I am concerned anyway. Takes care of both play styles and sounds great.

Here is to you BDM *raises glass*...hope you can pull it off and do it in style /salute

I looked at the concept art and was like WOW!
I then went on the website and was severly disapppointed with the graphics from 2003. People make fun of Gods and Heroes for having 5 year old graphics but when this comes out it'll have 10 year old graphics.

I know concept art is never like the real game but recently GW2 and AOC have shown that it can be 'close.'

@BigAndShiny I think its a little too soon to tell, it says on the page early alpha at the moment.

@BigAndShiny

While I can't comment on GW2 yet, AoC's gameplay is quite limited compared to what Origins is looking to offer. I'd love to have AoC's graphics on a sandbox game of course, but if I had to choose, I'd quite happily go for the Origins-type features over visuals.

"but who I am to put a damper on enthusiasm?" need a little editing there ;)

The game sounds very interesting there, and it sounds like they have done some serious strategic planning in terms of development and PR, which is something that is often lacking in indie/sandbox games. Hope to see it soon and hopefully it brings sandbox features more into the spotlight.

Oh, and good coverage, apart from the minor error there ;)

Be still my beating heart! Surely it can't be true?

BDM, I am being hind you 100-freakin-percent. I will buy your game without question if you can deliver even on only the content described in this interview! I've been waiting for so long for a game like this.

I played SWG for many years and It influenced my choice in games so much, no other game ive ever played compares to it because they never have the features or content I want. BDM looks like thats going to change! I am absolutely excited guys.

Also, Massively. I love the Some Assembly Required articles, keep them coming!

Great article, and wonderful news! It's great to hear about these developers shrugging off the cookie cutter mold and making a game that may not appeal to the entire MMO gaming population, but will most definitely host a a very, very appreciative, loyal community.

This idea of building houses brick by brick, the possibility of a vibrant merchant community and intelligent mobs sounds very cool!
