Bioware is very much like a politician (specifically a Republican Tea Party candidate most likely named Bachman)

Fans tell them how bad something is and they try their hardest to convince us about how great it is.

conversely some people like you are like republican tea party protesters. even when a majority of people are for, and like something. a small minority of people yell at the top of your lungs about it, while representing yourselves as the majority.

@Destati Why don't you go somewhere else if you want to argue about politics? Please no one respond to this moron's inane statement, this isn't the forum for yakking about that.

Yay for idiotic, out of place Nazi references that aren't within a lightyear of being realistic.

Why do people push this crap on a gaming site?

hmmmm i thought he was going to explain himself and shed some light on why the animations are so twitchy and overall poor. instead, he brags about it.

Lawl, my thoughts exactly.

Yeah, sure, giving player 100% control is all well and good - I mean, it's pretty much expected - but that's absolutely no excuse for having no good hit reaction animations! The trailers look absolutely ludicrous because people are standing stock-still while they're getting blasted left and right, there's absolutely NO reaction at all!

It's especially bad when they showcase one of the non-jedi/sith classes and have them blast them without a single reaction from the jedi/sith character. It looks incredibly bad.

I can only shake my head at Bioware. Really, that's all I can do.

to be totally honest you would shake your head at them no matter what they do for the simple fact that you are a fanboy troll. go back to plugging whatever 2-bit game that no one else wants to play.

As much as I'm looking forward to the character-focused stories and crafting system (and I'll admit it, space combat >_>), the art direction and animation are inferior to even the original KOTOR. In fairness to BioWare...it does have different teams, and this isn't the one working on Mass Effect 3, after all.

You know, you should really speak for yourself.

There is great irony in you calling me a "fanboy troll" when that is, in fact, what you have proven yourself to be, from a quick glance at your posting history.

Besides that, I might like other aspects of the game, that doesn't mean I can't criticize the aspects I DON'T like. But of course, I guess a troll would have difficulty with understanding that sort of "deep" concept. (insert rolling eyes smiley here)

I feel pity for Bioware.

That the developer thinks advanced animation 'takes control' from a character is only applicable if you're trying to design a 3D simulated world using methods derived from cinematics.

With animation, 'less is more'. It would have been better for them to set up a standard series of animations that apply to EVERY anthropomorphic character, and then iterated them into a set of combinations that could deliver a quick series of interlocked animations in response to the quick

They know how to do this with their narrative chunks. The whole 'story' part of the MMO is just what they should have done with their combat animations -- design it in small chunks that fit a multi-user Venn diagram.

This is something WoW did correctly. Notice that most of the animations in WoW are short and sweet, but they are also fluid with each other and with the other characters' animations.

No amount of mealy-mouthing can hide Bioware's novice treatment of the '3D game' part of this MMO. They didn't even bother with swimming animations, and that tells me that they just weren't trying to build a fully-fleshed MMO.

I think Bioware is bloated with corporate groupthink and infested with Hollywood-style process types.

@Borick EDIT: in response to the quick combat choices of the player.

Why no edit function? WHY?

I too think Bioware "went Hollywood" years ago. In ten years they'll be making movies and not games.

Lol, the animations in WoW are barely noticeable. Are you in beta for TOR?? I am and let me tell you, combat is waaaaaaaaaaay more fun in SW:TOR than WoW. I played WoW since launch so it's not a lack of exposure in that regard. I am not trying to be a Bioware fanboi either. I have my reservations too about the game but to spew things that are just patently false is not cool. While I saw the vitriolic reaction most had to the other poster who drew a comparison to politics, I will dare to say, MMO's and politics are alike in the sense that, perception is reality. So, when people make statements that may possibly influence the sheep who read this site, I feel I have to say something.

Really? People are upset about not being able to swim? Lol, what game has done swimming any justice and hasn't been considered more of a nuisance than something that adds to the immersion? Even WoW decided to change how they deal with swimming.

it is very simple. the people making false claim's have not even played a demo of SWTOR. they simply do not want the game to see success, because in their pea size brain that would mean they (the troll posters) lost. as if this is some kind of sporting event with a trophy at the end.

these are the same people that were making comments on how much the gameplay suck's before it was even in internal alpha testing. unfortunately they have such a loud voice, big mouth's, and an unlimited amount of time due to being unemployed bum's that they can convince people that what they say is the truth.

all i can say is... say no to the darkside

@Gymratmac The animations in WoW are so barely noticeable that they can be combined as-is by amateurs to develop fluid shots for machinima "out of the box"?

Are you saying that I'm incorrect that the animations in every SWTOR gameplay video I've watched have appeared stilted and uninspired? Have I not heard this repeated by others and confirmed by the actions of the developers?

I don't see how playing the game would change my impression of the animations. I have over-the-shoulder observed hours of beta play. The animations are stilted and break the flow of gameplay almost as much as the jarring 'choose your own cutscene' mini-game.

Sure, the gameplay animations are GREAT, if your comparison study is EQ1. If this were Mojang or some other indie developer I'd be willing to cut a lot of slack, but this is a multi-million-dollar project by one of the top AAA development studios in gaming. I expect better.
