The list of features being added to Final Fantasy XIV in patch 1.19 just keeps growing. Not only will players be able to ride on the back of a chocobo, but a new set of missions for caravan defense will let players beat marauding fiends away from those selfsame yellow birds. And there are even Grand Company seals to be obtained in the exchange, which just sweetens the deal for players investing time and effort into the system.
Each of the Grand Companies will have a different caravan to protect and will enlist the aid of full members in ensuring the caravan's safety during its march from an aetheryte camp to one of the nearby hamlets. Monsters will attack the caravan in turn, sometimes driving off birds and sometimes outright damaging the cargo, and it will be up to players to feed, calm, and protect the chocobos laden with supplies. Once the caravan arrives at its destination, players will receive seals based on how much cargo actually made it to its objective -- a chance to earn more currency and get some nice experience out of the event.

This stuff would have been nice at launch.

True. But don't you think it's time to move past that now? I mean it's already a year later and all.

@Azules And enjoy your feminine men? Seriously, I'm not against FFXIV, I'd love it to succeed. You act like I picked on your brother or something and got pissed. But they've made no massive improvements to their game design. It's still the same thing as before. A broke vase is a broke vase even if you apply some glue.
You may consider it leaps and bounds if you are looking at the monstrosity they gave at launch. But it's still way behind the curve as a quality game and experience.
I'll give credit to FFXIV when it is on par with at least the standards of today. Until then, it's just a joke and I'm not going to say "it's ok".

I just picked up the game 2 weeks ago, so I have no bias from the launch days or pre patch 1.18. I don't know what you mean by the game being "way behind the curve" in terms of playing experience. I have subs to both Rift and AoC, and within the last two years have played WoW and Aion extensively. I think FFXIV compares rather well against any of those games. Yes, the UI is a bit clunky, but as for gameplay elements I'm finding a lot more depth, most notably in the crafting system. The gameplay experience is "different," but that doesn't mean it's behind the curve. There is room for improvement, but show me a game that's perfect.

@Tizmah Great retort there, full of insight and sound reasoning. You fail to acknowledge any improvement in the game at all, when it has come on in leaps and bounds since they made changes to the dev team. They've come a long way, especially considering the mess the last guy left them with.
The next 3 patches have an enormous amount of stuff in them, too.
Also, Roegadyn are massive, hairy and not very feminine.

And the fact that you can't find the game anywhere here in the UK...why not make it downloadable on steam?

I find it odd it's not available on ANY downloadable service. I know Square doesn't exactly make the brightest choices, but not putting this game up for digital download anywhere at all just doesn't make sense. I know it's 'launch' wasn't exactly met with a parade, but still...

@Dunraven Saw it in GAME last week, and Gamestation is worth a look too, depending where you are.
Aaaaand a quick amazon.co.uk check reveals you can buy the game NEW for just 5 pounds. and there is no sign of a sub fee in sight, it's still f2p right now.
For 5 pounds, you can do worse.

I picked up the collectors edition at gamestop for 3.99 the other day. Havent installed it, probably wont... but I'd buy the collectors edition of Tabula Rasa for 4 bucks.

I've always been alittle confused on this; is the only way to play the game to go out and buy a box of it?

Is there any scenario universally reviled as much as escort quests?
Even going back to Counter-Strike when that popped up it was always with a groan from the crowd.

It is a mistake building quests around escorting and babysitting helpless npcs.
Then again, this is Square-Enix. Taking one step forward and three steps back must be their development doctrine.
