Anchor up and full speed ahead, first mate -- the World of Battleships website is fully operational!
Wargaming.net's latest entry into the "World of" series is taking the battle to the sea, handing the wheel of classic 20th century battleships to players and waving liability insurance. The website allows us to get a better look at the fleet vs. fleet title, with information, videos and screenshots ahoy.
Wargaming.net's Victor Kislyi broke the champagne bottle over the website's bow: "We're excited to launch World of Battleships' website. We want to make it home for all those in love with naval battles and WWII-era warships."
The title was announced a month ago, and is the third entry in Wargaming.net's increasingly popular vehicle-based PvP MMOs.

Would be lovely if they one day tied together the 3 games (World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, World of Battleships), and made it possible for tanks to fight planes, or planes fighting battleships... Let's call it:
World of Battlefield :)

@Meurik I think the 3 games will share the same meta-game (map conquest), but nothing direct.

And this is an MMO? how? Just a big FPS it looks like.

@(Unverified) It's -not- a MMO, nor are they're other in-the-works titles (I'll include their current title as I don't consider that at all finished with it's bad match-maker, and other balance issues). Considering the laundry list of work they have listed themselves to do on theri current title the fact that they're charging ahead with not 1 but 2 more is pretty ridiculous. But, yes completely in character for this -extremely- greedy and manipulative company.

Much as I loved Navy Field, I know Wargaming.net, and that means these battles aren't going to be top-down isometric in true back-in-the-day fashion. It's probably going to be a close-in 3rd-person shooter again, where you drive the ships around. Their experience with World of Tanks will probably mean direct-fire naval combat, as well as just about every big ship having the capability to switch to indirect fire as well. I wonder if submarines will rear their ugly heads? Doubtful..
I just wish a few of the features of Navy Field show up--being able to engineer your own armor distribution and assign weapons was pretty nice.

* War of Ground Soldiers (And every Christmas Eve, you can't fight, but you can go to enemy lines, trade pictures of your family, and have dance-offs with the enemy).
* War of Newspaper boys (Be the first to hawk papers during war time, while rounding up paper for the war-effort paper drive. Be sure to collect all those Action Comic #1's!)
* War of Cooks (Serve up piping hot meals to your troops. No, this is not Diner Dash...really...it's not. You are just confused. ;P ).

@Daemodand
They will be HUGE targets that cannot move I am betting. They will not be invulnerable or unstoppable which means its a different tactic that I think will play out well. I think there is definitely a place for them.

For a game (no matter what you want to classify it as) that is free its not bad at all. In the month I have been playing I have progressed nicely and have not spent a dime. I like it better that its not too deep and set in a "world" environment. To me this is a game you play to do something different every now and then. Its not something you devote as much time as a toon you create and grow from head to toe. This is just fast-paced quick battles that you can do without too much time constraints.
I really do not get the "greedy" comment earlier seeing as how they have got nothing from me at all. I will probably end up buying the $20 boxed version just to contribute because for the time I have put into it, its been at least worth $20, not like the $50 I wasted on the Lotro expansion which I will not be playing when it launches.

Considering the three games will share the same experience pool, clan wars map and premium gold, you could consider them to be expansions rather than stand alone.
