The blockbuster expansion is Dust 514, and im not buying a PS3.

My subscription ran out in september.

Im also totally uninterested in World of Darkness after the corporate newsletter leak that shows them wanting to item shop "power items".

They could always make a comeback, but im not holding my breath given the current direction CCP is taking and unfortunatly its the only MMO company left that was making games i wanted to play.

I do not agree. I simply do not have will to waste any effort on this piece and its old statements, those made by Massively readers months and years ago. Why just rehash this stuff like its a brand new report or update?

Good article, Brendan.

My account is currently on hiatus. I only started playing post-Apocrypha, and I've never been a heavy nullsec player, so I'm not acquainted with the same level of disappointment you describe here. However, I have to say that Incarna left me fairly surprised: what could have been a true "blockbuster" expansion was nothing more than a teaser. I firmly loathe this attitude towards development: either finish it, or improve broken features.

Keep the pressure on and don't let off till we actually get something concrete.

No space barbies
No runway catwalk models during fashion week (seriously, what the hell was that garbage)
No captains closets
No Farmville clones
No crappy FPS games

FLYING IN SPACE CONTENT.

Everything you ask for is impossible. So why even bother listing that? Surely there must be some happy middle ground between what YOU think EVE is and what the devs want to promote?

It's only impossible if people settle for the mediocre garbage we've been shoveled for two years.

@Darkstryke Let me get this straight, then... in your ideal world, CCP scraps all work done on Incarna, admits that they've basically done nothing for the past year, then reverts the game to how it was at the release of Tyrannis?

i do feel like more needs to be done and soon, faction warfare is another example of a job half done. Also where the love for high sec and low sec? not everyone likes 0.0 and a bit more variation here wouldnt go amiss .

I agree, Mittens and Brendan appear to see EVE as a game for the Null Sec players. There is more than one end-game in EVE, Null Sec is just one. Wormhole space, low-sec, and high-sec are all areas in EVE that CCP should not ignore in an attempt to appease Mittens.

null sec is not the only end-game of EVE, but it is the most important. Some will undoubtedly disagree with this, and they have their right to an opinion. But that opinion is wrong. 0.0 has been, from the beginning, the best thing about EVE as a whole...well, in theory at least.

CCP keeps making trailers about it because they think so too.

Very nice article. A few months ago, before the newest expansion, I gave EVE a try and I thoroughly enjoyed it. After my sub expired I was contemplating on if I should re-sub. Even though I would like to support the company, I don't like the higher-ups pushing the low-men down. After reading all the trouble EVE is facing and will face in the not so distant future, I think I will end up avoiding it; including Dust 514 and World of Darkness. My condolences to the current and veteran players of EVE.

I'm still playing, still killing peeps and still having fun watching them rage over internet spaceship pixels. What's the problem again?

The trouble with losing numbers, especially with "power players" for lack of a better word, is that once you have found something new to take up that chunk of time you previously had dedicated to EvE, the reason needed to come back need to be pretty enticing.

I left soon after incursion (actually after IT failed catastrophically).
I resubbbed for 1 month on PLEX for incarna to have a look, which was "meh".
So now the only thing on the horizon which has any interest for me is DUST, and only so i can experience EVE on a new scale before prob giving it up all together once the new flavor of the month game appears.

Most of IT went to win at EVE again in NCdawt and Raiden, the ones that got hurt the most over their cascade was probably their pets and renters.

These are good points, but anyone who thinks the games industry at large isn't like this, is naive.

CCP isn't doing anything else any other mainstream AAA publisher isn't doing when they get a brand, or a franchise that has reoccurring revenue structures.

And while I understand the stellar management team "feels" that CCP isn't spending enough resources on EVE (and why shouldn't they? they have obvious bias' and would be liable to suggest no ammount of resources would ever be enough for their beloved game), no one cares more about the future of the company than the people making the decisions at CCP.

The way the business works is, new jobs get opened up under new projects budgets, because new projects are lucrative for investors. So just because the EVE team doesn't make up for a majority of people hired by CCP anymore, doesn't mean those resources would ever be available for just EVE anyway. Most businesses operate on bare bones for "resources" as it is, and we can't assume eve online would have any bigger of a team than it has now if other initiatives didn't exist.

I also want to make it a point that in the games industry, the majority of features and ideas that get gelled around and talked about, and planned in most design meetings get cut, highly modified, or just plain iterated into obscurity. Idea's for games are always brilliant on one side, but what gets executed on in the production floor is always something else by the end entirely due to scalability, company politics, industry influences, technical limitations, and of course whether features are actually fun or not.

So it doesn't suprise me at all that the ellectedt team finds game design disappointingly slow, resource bound, and out right disillusioned about the reality of game development.

@Kalex716 - Sounds to me CCP is trying to develop and fund three games at once (all costly MMOs for that matter). They are feeling the pinch financially so they are having to prioritize. And it sounds like EVE isn't getting the overall development support or priority it once had.

And EVE players have noticed. The expansions clearly aren't up to the standard of prior expansions and seem like a testing ground for CCP's other MMOs (they have little to do with spaceships anymore).
