Actually, you're ADDING options; you can still subscribe in EQ2X, and in fact if you have the SOE All Access subscription you get gold status in EQ2X (as well as premium membership in Pirates of the Burning Sea and Free Realms).

But you're TAKING AWAY the star-bellied sneeches' option to play without any filthy starless sneeches around.

see the problem i have is they separated the servers so the F2p people couldn't play with the sub people. They say its because of the harvestables but it doesn't matter because there are gold farmers and bots controlling things on the live servers anyways so it was a dumb idea imo.

EQIIX actually represents a very good value given the amount of gaming you can get for the $10 it takes to go silver. Asking on the forums, they say you can easily make it all the way to level cap on a silver account, then pay for a month or two to get the good gear.

You'll note the EQIIX server is consistently at high population, unlike the P2P servers.

@Daemodand : "You'll note the EQIIX server is consistently at high population, unlike the P2P servers. "

That's because there's only one free server, and a number of P2P ones.

You'll also note that SOE have never added any additional free servers. SOE will only ever say that the free server is the busiest, they will never say how the total F2P population compares to the total P2P population.

I have a Silver EQ2X account as well as my Station Access account. I made it on launch day a year ago and since then I've barely even logged on to Live.

About the only cash shop purchases I've made in a year were the Ratonga race pack, a Guild Charter, Silver membership and, last weekend, the DoV expansion. My ratonga is now a level 84 Berserker and level 90 Weaponsmith and still very happy to be Silver.

What with all houses now having 6 house vault slots and our guild having a level 30 guild bank, I haven't found storage to be much of a problem. Mastercrafted gear and Expert spells have been more than sufficient for the solo/duo content I do. I do think it would be tough to raid or do the tougher instances without access to Legendary/Fabled gear, but Eq2 has an insane amount of content without needing to do either.

I definitely wouldn't want to stick at Bronze, which is too restrictive, but for a one-time payment of $10 to go up to Silver you probably never need to spend another cent.

Their F2P is too limited in bronze and too expensive in platinum. There is no reason to go silver or gold. (If your gold, why not just play on live you get more features...) Just like a subscription game if you stop paying for Gold and Plat you basically cant play. All your gear and inventory gets locked. You can log in, but you'd be unable to do anything.

How is this better than live?

Sadly if you want to play EQ2, its still $15 a month. The F2P thing is just an "Extended Trial" of a few classes....

@xilr I have a lvl 90 paladin i have only spent 20dollars in the game i am silver and am having tons of fun.
You should not sub on live because everyone is lvl 90 already whats the point in paying 15bucks a month to play by yourself? I'm tired of people saying that on live its better because really its not i used to be on live and the population was horrible POPULATION RULES over a few races you dont get if you pay 15month on the f2p server. With legendery gear unlockers when i start raiding all i have to do is buy a few of those for cheap and im set!

when you do the math platnum sub is cheaper then a monthy live or gold eq2x .
and bonze player get more then enough for free, all content but the latest expansion for a 7 + year old game is a huge value.

If you've hit 90, you were probably able to do plenty of dungeons. Dungeons that drop gear your not allowed to put on. Not to mention not everyone wants to be one of the handful of race/class combos available to you. I miss playing EQ2 a lot, but the restrictions on EQ2X just makes it an endless free trial.

I'd happily return to playing my Ogre Shadowknight or Arasai Fury for $5 a month. But it isnt worth $15 anymore, and its certainly not worth $199 a year.

@xilr except that MC gear is pretty much better then all legendery gear from dungeons untill you get to the high lvls...

Ya know...they also have 40 slot backpacks for sale. You can actually get these in game also. I would gladly pay extra money in any game for more bag space.

Just another note about SOE cash shops. $1 = 100 points. You don't have to use 3 math formulas to figure out how much you are spending. They are playing no games with your money. That is the one reason why out of all the f2p mmos, I have only purchased points from SOE. Well, that and I like Everquest
