@foodhead What is it that convinces you that people are "hating" just to be "cool" instead of expressive a legtimate group of concerns?

I plan to play the game, but I must honestly agree with those who say that the graphics look terrible, the animations are weird, and the gameplay itself is very ho-hum and standard. Even Rift, which would generously be described as "similar" to World of Warcraft, blows this away visually.

The end game looks like the MMO standard grind of raiding for linear gear upgrades, with I guess the twist of the upgrades being split between aesthetic choices and "mods" than can be slotted into existing gear.

Look at how little innovation exists in SWTOR compared to a game like Guild Wars 2, which is going to be without a monthly fee. It seems like Bioware could have done much better, considering how many MMO veterans on are on their SWTOR development team.

And what convinces YOU that people who state that they believe they're going to like the game are blind fanboys? Double standards are fun, aren't they? :D

@GreatWolfFenris I've never said that, so I see no need to support such a statement. I've never seen any one state that no one will like it, just that they personally don't like it or don't see why it will have a lasting appeal beyond being Star Wars.

For all I know, even *I* will love the game, but if so, it will be in spite of, and not because of, the graphics and animations, which simply look terrible. And if I do play it as my "main" MMO once Guild Wars 2 comes out, it either means that GW2 has failed to deliver, or that some currently undisclosed feature of SWTOR has caused me to stay.

Being in beta of ToR since july, and having a Rifts account - I can wholeheartedly tell you that is pure BS. ToR looks way better than RIFTS when both are maxed out.

Stuff like this makes me say people just hate on ToR to look cool and join in the bandwagon. I have both games, ToR looks way better. There isn't even a comparison.

@foodhead

It's not "pure BS" at all. You're acting like no one can look around the 'net and find videos in high quality or that Bioware is demoing their game in low quality, etc.

I'm sure there are particular locations within the game world that are more aesthetically pleasing than others (to my eyes, Tython looks much better than Korriban, for example) but in the end there's a particular level of graphical fidelity, a stylization of the human form (all the males have sharply slanted pectorals and underdeveloped legs, for example), and quirky animations (like gravity that doesn't apply a constant force), and so on.

The models in SWTOR just look very primitive to me, as if they are an iconographic representation of their subject rather than a literal representation. This, to me, destroys the feeling of existing within the star wars universe. Wookies don't look like wookies, they look like the simplified re imagining of what a wookie might look like in a child's drawing.

I realize that to some extent this is subjective, but at the same time, I'm not just "hating" in order to "be cool." I have a long list of very specific and noticeable complaints, especially with regard to the aesthetics of the game. You're not required to share my opinion or agree on any level with what I'm saying, but you should at least recognize that I'm not adversarial for the sake of disagreement.

I want to like this game a lot. After 6.5 years of playing WoW, and before that, playing SWG, EQ, UO, and trying my hand at dozens of other MMOs, I would really like for SWTOR to be "the next big thing" that sucks me in. But I just don't see how it's going to have appeal that lasts very far beyond the leveling stage.

I feel like there are some cool aspects of the game like companions and the space combat mini game, but I don't know if those side tracks are going to matter enough if the game looks mediocre and the focus of development is on providing that same old "raid for gear upgrades to raid for gear upgrades" treadmill.

Lawl. Troll. Why don't you just say it flat out sucks balls? Short, sweet and to the point.

Obviously you have played a game with all that you listed there haven't you. And obviously you know a good game when you see it. No? Aw, because maybe your standards are too high for the industry? Why don't you make a game instead of boasting about how "inferior" games are little coward.

All talk and no walk.

Interesting video. I like the low kick and fist to the face. Was the scoundrel cloaking and reviving? Also, I'm not sure what that yellow glow on the gunslinger was when he was reloading. The hovering shield was certainly unique.

I'm confused by the blasters. I see them bursting at all these different rates. Is that dependent on the type of blaster or skill? Around 0:57, I see something different as the projectile. The gunslinger also spits out a bunch of fire in a very spread pattern in that last part.

I've wanted to play a smuggler since they were first announced to be in the game. But after watching this my hype for the class just went way up. Can't wait to play a Gunslinging Smuggler. :D

By the way, your 30 years of fun games might be different from another person's 30 years of fun games. Just because people like this game doesn't mean they are messing anything up. This is a democratic society. Move on and play something different if you don't think too highly of it. If majority of the people think it's terrible they will move on too and the game will fade into the horizon. No need to convince anyone to not play it right? Everyone is entitled to try it for themselves.

For those of you who hate this game with a passion or just not interest, be seeing ya later in the MMO world. Because I high doubt you would waste $60 on a game you're not into. That will definitely weed out all the trolls and whiners leaving me to enjoy the game.

If you want a real mmo that's actually innovating and implementing interesting features... then take a look at ArcheAge.
Compared to that, SW:TOR just looks like a glorified heap of cow dung. EA even stated that they're trying to copy WoW... which is just pathetic

Played a Smuggler / Pistoleer in SWG, always wanted him to be awesome but both professions were just totally and completely broken from day one till the day I quit.

Smuggler was always going to be my first toon in TOR, some of the other class info / videos made me doubt that decision, but thankfully this video helps confirm that yes, I will indeed be rolling a Smuggler first.

Thank you Bioware.
