Bah it is just another book from D&D world. There are literally hundreads or may be even thousands of them. Now some deal was made and one of writers used story from D&D Online. I don't see nothing exceptional here.

If that would be book based on some unique MMO IP then it would be more unusual.

But this is just another book in D&D realm.

There's been a lack of news about DDO. Anyone knows how is it faring nowadays and how the freemium model has been working out for them in the long run?

Not bad I think. Afaik still plenty of players but not as much as right after freemium transition.

It's rocking, in all respects. I can't comment on server pops, but it's never quiet on Cannith and the two or three others I alt on. Consistently high quality updates, lots of interesting new stuff going on there on a regular basis. Definitely alive, healthy, and throbbing with gaming goodness!

Also: I wants teh book!

I haven't touched DDO in a year, but I am a fan of the Eberron setting. Any new material is good. The Eberron fiction line has been sparse this year.
