Castle Empire, the upcoming free-to-play title from Ubisoft, has had a fair amount of time to settle into closed beta. The development team has made plenty of progress and is ready to welcome even more testers in to check things out.
To that end, Ubisoft has passed along 1,000 closed beta keys for us to share with our readers. So if you're ready to start exploring the land and building your empire, visit our giveaway page to grab your key. Once you've got it, simply fill out the "register for free" section of Castle Empire's front page and enter your key when prompted. That's it -- you're ready to join the beta test of Castle Empire! Keep in mind that currently Castle Empire is only available in the US, Canada, and Mexico. There are also versions in France and Germany.

Might want to make a note that it seems to be open to the US only, to save us foreigners accidentally wasting keys.

Just started this, it looks/sounds nice so far! I've tried a number of these new RTS/MMO cross-breed and haven't found 1 yet that was any good. I'm generally skeptical that this sub-genre is workable as getting the balance right seems so extremely difficult. That is to say the balance of the basic speed that things happen with people's varying levels of involvement online. Be interesting to see if these people have managed to someone find an answer to balancing.

@Saker This is pretty much the online mode of Settlers 7. If you haven't played I suggest you do, its a great game.
This seems to be different in that its more persistent but the general game-play is the same

my main concern right now is the compulsory cash shop every game must now come with. And with these types of games you always have to determine how pay to win the cash shop is.
So far im a little worried from what ive been able to see, you can use purchased items to increase building speeds, purchase upgrades to buildings that would normally use resources, ect.
Looks like using your credit card will allow you to speed up your growth and develop faster than someone who doesnt. Not sure im interested in the game anymore now.

@(Unverified) You can get Gems in-game. Castle Empire will soon have a daily login bonus feature making it even easier to play for free. Each consecutive day that you log in means a nicer reward, with a reward of 45 Gems on the 7th day. Just a heads up if the Item Shop scared you :D

Don't even bother, got in and found it was yet another generic browser based, time dependent game where you get to wait 4 hours for each new thing to build/upgrade after the first newbie buildings.
Also it's one of those cash shops with a game tacked on sort of deals, and is very pay 2 win oriented, with almost everything of use requiring a credit card to use.
If you got hundreds of dollars or more burning a hole in your pocket, and genuinely lack the intelligence to use it on something better than this, then give it a go. Otherwise, move on, nothing new here.
