SONY sent me an email welcoming me back to my EQ2 account over the long weekend to try the game again. When I try to login, it tells me a subscription is required. Whoops.

@hexaemeron

Same here, email received from SOE but no access permitted to the game. There's a five page thread of similar complaints on the official forum.

How SOE so consistently fail on customer relations (and marketing) is utterly beyond me. If they want to draw customers back with a free weekend then (1) they should send the explanatory email a few days before it starts, not partway through, and (2) make sure the accounts are re-activated no later than the promised start time.

The way that this deal has been cocked up is a guaranteed way of making sure wavering customers don't come back to the game, and moreover it is so typical of SOE. They just don't seem to learn.

Silly me wasting a few hours to come back and take a look only to find the free weekend was a lie also - And finding out it stared a day before the email was sent. FAIL

Anyone with the EQ2 email who can't get back in should submit a support ticket on the website and post the ticket number on the Tech Support board as per the topic about the weekend activation. A TSR will then pick out that ticket and activate the account - it only took a few minutes for mine to be dealt with, and the 3 days offered will apparently run from when the account is activated, not from yesterday.

@Dril Labor Day is a recognition of organized labor's contributions to American society, like 40 hour work weeks and pensions.

But why?
One of the problems I'm having with MMO's is the current fad of rushing everyone to max level. Easiest way to hide lack of content is my guess, that and copying the Blizzard model.
But with Blizzard losing around a million subs other companies may want to rethink that model.

@(Unverified) EQ2 has gobs of content but many players do want to hurry to max level to get ready for raiding and such. I too prefer to take my time with a game. I just love to soak in the environment/lore and hang out in game with buds =)

Not everyone is rushed to max level in EQ2. If that's what you want then fine, the game can provide it, but if you want to take it slower then you can disable experience and complete every single quest in every single zone, dedicate any percentage you choose of experience to AA advancement, take inordinate time over crafting, collection quests, fitting out your house(s), etc. You can even get an NPC to down-level you for as long as you like while you finish off earlier content, check out revamped zones and so on.

Basically EQ2 is what you make it. The choice is entirely yours.
