It's official: You can now purchase World of Tanks in a retail store near you. Wargaming.net has shipped boxes of its free-to-play World War II heavy armor MMO to stores, including GameStop, Wal-Mart, Fry's, and others, and the retail package comes loaded with $30 worth of in-game items.
Players will receive a T2 light tank, one week's worth of premium account access, 1,050,000 credits, and 1,800 gold -- all for $19.99. If you can't make it out to your local games dealer, you'll find the World of Tanks retail box for sale at many online stores as well, including Best Buy.com, New Egg, and Amazon.

I've had pretty good fun with this game, what little I've played of it. You can play and contribute without paying, which is nice. Not that I wouldn't enjoy the perks, it's just nice when a game doesn't shove it down your throat too much.
It's like an FPS in slow motion, but somehow that's still really compelling.

Any game that requires you to pay to party is an instant lose. I don't care that you can play w. two people without paying. How can this be an MMO when you have to pay to get that first M?

A week's premium access? I don't know this game, but wouldn't this by like a subscriber account in Lotro, Age of Conan or Everquest 2? I.e. something that usually comes in 30 day chunks with a new purchase?
I just don't know if this is a good deal or not, that's what I'm trying to fathom out.

This is a great deal.
One week of premium costs 1250 gold (or 583 gold/week if you buy a month)
The T2 Light tank is worth another 750 gold.
1,050,000 credits would cost 2625 gold (although you wouldn't normally spend gold to get credits).
Then there is another 1800 gold included.
So you are getting 6425 gold's worth and the game on a disc for $20.
In comparison 6500 gold with cost you $30 USD.
