Nice, this may get me to resub this Fall or whenever it comes out; I don't particularly care if they're just scaled down versions of existing dungeons, this will be perfect for me to get some game play going without sacrificing 2-3 hours per sitting (I'd love to, but I just can't).

Solo instances for max lvl only?

@(Unverified) My guess is they are going to do this for max level at the start and then see how the community reacts. If it's favorable they will probably add some revolving around lower level dungeons. They were supposed to revolve around raid lore though I would imagine adapting a story for a solo version of a regular 5 man wouldn't be too difficult. It would be awesome to see at least one solo instance per zone.

These look great, and they are part of Trion's stated commitment to cater to all types of players. If these are fun and rewarding, I'm sure I'll run them many times.

I'll probably be doing a playthough of this sometime tonight or this weekend. The videos are cool but that first one, I can't stand the guys voice and it's all sped up and you can't hear what's going on. The second one gives you a good look at what is going on, but no audio from the actual game. I also would like to know what setup they have going in in terms of how geared they are, specs and so on. Probably something I will cover in my own video when I get around to it.

These guys are making it really hard to stay away. What a cool concept.

Good to see RIFTS pushing concepts like this. The MMO genre needed developers like Trion years ago.

I like it. It would be nice to see these go over well, and then it would be nice to see if they can make a dungeon that scales for 1, 2, 5 or more players (still waiting to see something like this in a gear-based game). That way, you make one dungeon that caters to a wider variety of players (solo, duo, group).

uh.. hmm.. gotta say, after watching both clips.. wasn't surprised or even remotely impressed. what they're offering isn't anything new from what starter dungeons are like *(you solo w/npc help to get through the intro tutorial).

so not only is this an old mechanic, it's not even really news worthy.

it'd be like WoW coming out and saying:
"now we have a cool new feature that allows you to revisit old locations uber fast!... it's called... A +5 speed MOUNT! ~ amazing right?

totally new and nothing like those other +2 speed mounts".

granted RIFT has already blown it's load and shown players that it's nothing special, beyond the typical wow clone with a gimmick.. so I guess anything they can add to try ta keep people playing is always good for their fans.

just sad it's not really anything special.

I think its great that they pump out content! Sets the standards higher for all MMO's! I may not be a RIFT fanboy, but love their energy.

@(Unverified) pump out content?... uh, you're not paying attention were you?

If you wanna see something that's "setting a higher standard for all MMO's" go look at Guild Wars 2 ~

this little dungeon/content patch Rift is doing.. is nothing compared to ArenaNet.. or even what's already out on the market... hell, Eden Eternal has more going for it right now then Rift.. and it's "free 2 play".

Okay, I'm convinced...I am going to see if Game Stop sells RIFT gamecards tomorrow.

(You snooze, you lose Blizz.)

we certainly need a new term for MMOs now, as the trend seems to be to draw more and more away from the 'multi-player' part of the title.

this is not a slight on Rift, i think they do a lot of things right, it is more about the way games have been progressing.

i get that a large number of gamers are 'casuals' or have limited time, etc etc, but i think MMOs should be finding better ways to bring people together and not better ways for them to stay apart.

I like the persistence and living feeling of a virtual world. I am not a huge fan of banding together with other players to fight.

There's more to the "massively multi-player" part of MMOs than combat.

@Ren54

He does have a point though. More and more the emphasis is on smaller and smaller not just here but across all games. The sense of scale has for years been diminished with smaller worlds and private encounters which while enjoyable, rather undermine the idea of a game as being, well, massive.

Especially where Rift is concerned, in my opinion the game was at it's most fun and unique when large public raids spontaneously formed to take on Invasions and I'd like to see more emphasis on this than on small content.
