Carbine must be pretty confident in their game if they're willing to share bits of it so early on in development.

@Lenn From what I played at PAX, it felt about as "solid" as WoW did about 6 months out. Granted WoW changed a lot in those 6 months and in the 7 years since I first logged in to the beta. It would be nice to see more of the world. Right now it seems like they have a very polished demo, but little else.

@(Unverified) That's what I meant. They've only got the demo and yet aren't afraid to show it off and let people play around with it.

I hope that confidence will be justified. The game looks like great fun.

If they go with a B2P payment like Guild Wars then I'm already sold on Wildstar. If they go subscription then count me out (I've already crossed The Secret World off my list), as there are far too many good non-subscription MMOs out now to be paying $15 a month.

Heck, they could partially fund Wildstar with CGI DVD episodes if similar in quality to the trailer and then just sell the box and expansions, no sub needed. I'd certainly buy them. CGI bunny girl does need a makeover though, something about her just seemed a bit off; I like the in-game version much better.

Should be interesting to see how their path features work out, as I think they mentioned about 30% of the content will be path specific, which certainly bodes well for repeated play with alts.

@Yarr

One should not judge the game based on it's business model...accept only when it's subscription plus micro-transactions. Then it should be round filed in most available trash dispenser.

I agree with you if there's a sub I'm out. I all ready plan on playing SWTOR and GW2. I cant afford two sub games. The SW looks really good but I want to shoot lighting and swing a lightsaber. ;p

It's kind of cool to see the number of comments since the trailer was released saying that they should make an ongoing story of it. Usually I'm not a fan of CGI trailers for MMOs, but WildStar's was funny and charming and really shows off the game's personality from the start. I'd watch more episodes of that for sure.

I couldn't agree more. With SWTOR, GW2, Diablo 3, Torchlight 2 and many other games vying for attention it will be may be difficult for a game company to get people to open their wallets again for their game AND a sub fee. I would be much more inclined to purchase Wildstar if it followed the same business model as GW2.

I agree with the movement and attack issue. I hope they change that too, fights seem less robotic and more actiony that way.

"You can't move while attacking, so dodging an impending AoE attack interrupts whatever current attack you're using"

The problem for me would be if your attacks have animations that can't be interrupted. I don't mind stopping an attack in order to dodge, but it has to be instant, I don't want to be locked in place just because I started a skill that has a big song and dance animation before it fires.

I can only speculate, probably it's a bit like CoH? Or CoH was? You have a choice of doing your heavy attack, which you can't move and may be interuptable or quick attacks, that you can shoot and move.

If not the case, Carbine should add in some low damage quick attacks one can use before/after dodging.

Absurdity is what I look for in a game sometimes. But it's not everyones' thing...to wit, don't play it if you don't like it when it comes out. /shrug

Ruby, can you tell me if this is going to be a F2P or subscription model game? Either way I'm interested, but more likely to pick it up if its F2P these days.

Im hoping for a base price for the game with no subs (like GW/the future GW2).

Other than that, it sounds like my cup of tea.

PS love the podcast!

@madbassman39 I don't know anything about the business model at this point. It's one of many many many questions I have! :) I've got a long list and am contacting them today to set up an interview. It was just way too chaotic at PAX for super-deep discussion.

I have to say I'm impressed with how these guys are going about their business. To come from nowhere with a cinematic trailer and playable demo without the usual years of hype beforehand is very refreshing and even their beta signup actually asked some sensible questions.

@Ren54 It's a Massively Multiplayer Online game. Which is why we are covering it here on *Massively.*
