We should all be very wary of this "Peter Molyneux -esc" talk, keep working on fixing your very broken 2nd hand game, then you can paste whatever gold stars and cotton balls onto it you want kids.

@Sock66 You do realize they're talking about what RTW had planned, not what GamersFirst is doing, right?

So if they don't grab enough of your cash from the shop, they grab more of your cash by making you buy what are essentially expansions repackaged as separate games. Sounds great...

Ask anyone who is opening a business and you will hear great plans. "Oh, we're going to do this and this. It is going to be so wonderful. Then we'll do this and this. We'll make tons of money and open branches all over the world, blah blah blah"

There's a very fine line between ambitious and foolhardy. In RTW's case, it seems it was the latter...

Not tryin' to hate, I loved RTW and loved their APB, despite the flaws, but for a game to shut down as fast as APB did, especially with the budget they had to work with, it's obvious they just got in waaaay over their heads.

Did they slow down the cars from the original release? The cars are not even fast enough to make the stunt ramp jumps anymore. Tried every car you can steal and not one was fast enough for the jumps on the overpass.

The driving is still horrible to, something you would expect from a game made in 2003.

@Rhazes 2003? Gran Turismo's have been around since 1997. Even before that, there were some great racing games on the PC with realistic controls.

As for Realtime Worlds, gotta finish steps 1, 2, and 3 before working on step 29.

@Rhazes

Really? I could make every jump I tried just like in the old days, even with the little starter 4-bangers. They did alter the driving mechanics significantly. And in one mission style, deliberately slow down your acceleration rate so you can't just run away with the cargo. But other than that, no, the cars go just as fast as they did as far as I'm concerned.

Well. I am glad to hear they had this ambition. Sorta sad to have not seen it come into fruition. Don't mind if it was an "add-on pack" you bought or whatever (a whole MMO landscape with various games but using your avatar).

But really, RTW just bit off more than they could chew. Always been a danger with new or small studios that hit the "big time" and are given tons of money; many of them can't handle the new influx of money. You still have to be disciplined in your goals and other aspects (such as not blowing it off on new, pricey offices, new employees you may not need, etc.)

Sad, but hopefully someone else will take on the mantle and do something similar.
