CCP has stated they have had an "economist" in EVE for a number of years, The joke?, an economist in a game with infinite resources. Why dont they simply state the guy will adjust the "economy" as the devs see fit. Pathetic.

@Graill440 Dr. E. is a full time CCP Employee and is responsible for the quarterly economic news letters as well as helping the other devs tweak the amount of ISK that flows into the game.

I fail to see your "joke" because there is not an infinite amount of money within the game. Yes like any country's economy there has been inflation (and periods of bubble bursts) since it's inception but there are many ways in which money is removed from the game in order to keep everything in balance. Yes it is true that money is "created" in the sense that it is kind of just a number on a computer database but like most real world economies the amount of paper currency floating around (IE ISK in wallets and assets etc...) is closely monitored and regulated to make sure there is no saturation.

Please put slightly more thought into your comments before you start hating on things...

Thing with Dr. E is that he's doing all these cool things, but I don't think he's actually *playing* the game, so many of the conclusions in his newsletters are based on wrong interpretations of data or just simply flawed statistical data points due to his failure to understand how players are using the game mechanics.

And anyhow, EVE economy is built on army of mining bots churning away in the Droid regions

@SgtBaker1234556

i'd assume he's not pvping, or shooting structures for a couple hours, but i'm sure he's messing around with the market on a constant basis. He also talked about mining and production from his point of view quite a few times in the past, so i'd say he plays the game, just not in the way most do.

He might not be right constantly, i'm not sure, but over the years he did make a lot of very good predictions about the economy as a whole. But he's great and the work he's doing is awesome most of the time.

haha saying the economy is build by armies of bots is like saying that a plant is made of leaves. Sure, that is one part of it, but it's a shallow, incomplete and thus flawed conclusion.

@Xilmar

You mean real people are actually mining, not bots?

I guess I've been gone too long, back in the days when I played mining wasn't worth it because bots would be more efficient and able to dump minerals/prices to the point where manufacturing anything outside alliance use was just a huge waste of time.

And the economy back then was based on artifical-bot-inflated mineral pirce.

But I'll take your word for it and if that has changed, then well done Dr E.

So in other words EvE is catching up with the fan run Market trackers for games like Entropia then?

@Scuffles

Doubt it really...EVE's economy is a side thing that most players don't understand, care or follow. It's not a big part of the game unless you make it.

But it's more of a game, so i guess that balances things a bit.
