It's been a couple of months since EVE Online released Incarna, and players have been itching for the next step on their galactic grand conquest tour. Happily, this Thursday will see the game move forward with Incarna's 1.1 patch, a smaller-sized update that will usher in a whole new era of EVE player socializing.
With the patch comes an update to EVE Gate, with nifty features like activity notifications to keep you abreast of the news and personalized backgrounds. The forums are getting an overhaul as well and will include search options, the ability to "like" posts, utilize quick replies, and other essential tools. The soon-to-be old forums will be locked and archived for future posterity.
While 1.1 players won't be able to leave their captain's quarters just yet, the screens and menus in the room are being spruced up and a few other bugs quashed. Other features included in the patch are customizable API keys, the ability for third-party applications to access contract updates, and numerous tiny (but important!) fixes to the game.

@aaradun it's funny how all this beta testing of the WoD engine is going to ruin both EVE and the dwindle away the customer base for WoD.
I mean, who in their right mind would ever buy a CCP product when there is a risk CCP might put updates and bugfixes for it completely on hold for several years while they develop something else?

Still no fix to the eye strain font issue. (sigh) Glad they are making all these improvements but I know that I and many other players will never be able to really play the game until they offer larger then 13 size font.

Yeah, that's probably my biggest issue at the moment. I would kill for some better font right now. I can still play with the current font, but it's far from what I would call 'comfortable' to read.

The smaller changes contribute to the social aspect of the game. Incarna itself wasn't a horrible expansion but there were some issues.
Those issues are getting ironed out. Overall, the Incarna expansion was/is a success in my opinion. I look forward to future content they will be implemented and welcome the smaller updates they are currently giving us.

From what I've seen both in player response and actual online login numbers - and the initial response by the CSM - it may be the largest negative impact the game has ever had - just at a time when competition is starting to get pretty serious.

Incarna was the worst expansion Eve has ever seen and this patch does nothing to improve it. (except for no more session timers when changing ships while docked...that change is awesome)
Also, I hope the second attempt at new forums is just as entertaining as the first attempt.

I hate to say it, but I let my subscription lapse. I was enjoying the game until a couple months ago, when things just started to turn sour. This was before Incarna came along, and I still had high hopes for it. Since then, it's just not the same game anymore, and I don't mean that in a positive way. CQ issues and the whole Aurum fiasco aside, the game has become glitchy and *harder* to play instead of easier and just isn't fun right now. CCP can still fix that (I think)but their priorities don't appear to match what we have been asking for on the forums.
I really thought Incarna would be a bold first step to opening up the game to a new audience and would give us bitter vets a shot in the arm, but it hasn't worked out that way. Instead it seems to have taken the wraps off a dedicated plan to alienate long-time players and try to move everyone over to World of Darkness, whose motto seems to be, 'Give us your money.'
So, I'm out for now. I'll keep an eye on things, but if CCP can't even come up with a ship-spinning option for the CQ after 3 months of staring at a door, I'm not sure they can handle the heavy lifting of real gameplay issues. I hope I'm wrong, but until then, I'll just wait for Guild Wars 2.
