Hey look, it's Alterac Valley in space. This is the kind of innovation that 100 million bucks buys. kek.

This is one of several different styles of pvp in Swtor.....are you saying you would rather be without a cap/hold map style than have it? The budget allows them to have several styles. Search huttball for innovation. Theres also of course other familiar styles that are familiar to MMO players. Should those be pulled? What about open world pvp? They haven't disclosed all the different types yet either...just saying.

I don't remember them claiming to be innovative or genre setting.

You have SWTOR confused with RIFT's claims.

@Mtor this has been done years before you ever read about alterac or valley. sure, they copy from "this you mention", but "this" already was a copy from "that"... so it's 10 years that cross-copying ideas/mechanics/lore/style is a common factor in mmos. in other words, you are stating the obvious and implicitly criticize all other mmos, "this one you mentioned" included.

@Mtor Actually when I saw it (Having never played the "Valley" in WoW) I thought of the Battlefield or Battlefront series. This style of map is pretty common.

Hey look, it's a troll putting down a mmo game by comparing it to the most successful MMO in history. This is the kind of innovation that brings... absolutely nothing. lol

Hmm i don't remember AV having 2 Motherships you have to take down? The Points you capture are turrets. And they shoot towards the ships. Ships have health bars in Upper right corner. The main gun is the strongest one. Tho two side ones = 1 main gun. So if you control 2 side guns will do equal damage than having main gun. Kills here don't count toward achievement. So you can die as many times. Main thing is to control the guns and destroy the ship.

P.s i love the sound of medal system . Really limits afk grinders and people who do nothing :)

@Mtor ZOMG ITS OUTDOOR AND THERE IS SNOW NO OTHER GAME BUT WOW HAS DONE THIS IT MUST BE ALTERAC VALLEY!

Sorry to break your heart sir. But the battle of hoth and the battle of echo base both did it in 2003 before WoW was even released. WoW (and activision for that matter) Take a bunch of games, see what people like, steal the idea, and implement it into there game. There is no "game innovation since Ultima online" any more if you want to sell to the masses. Not saying I wasn't a wow fan boy for awhile, but it's reign is coming short. Make room for bioware.

I think he means in terms of gameplay aspects. The only thing SWTOR claims to be innovative in is the story. Now from what I see that seems to be the case and I for one don't mind that at all.

I don't understand how this notion that a game has to be innovative to be good came about? Why can't they just have everything that everyone else has but do it better. Like WoW does.

Rift didn't calim that also. They claimed they were evolutionary with a couple of new twists.

Shows how much you know. It's more like Arathi Basin instead of Alterac Valley, and that's because AB was about capturing and holding locations for points where as AV was a PvE race to kill the enemy boss first.

And, what was the point of Arathi Basin anyways? Hold a Farm, hold a Blacksmith, hold a Mill...but why? At least in this one there's a good vision to the fight of controlling turrets to destroy an enemy ship. There's story and depth to it, not just random location on a map to hold.

As for the PvP, I love how it's very intense, yet not to eye-burning. By that I mean that it's not overly populated with particle effects like in other games. Sure, there's the lasers, the lightning, the Lightsabers, etc. But those are subtle and look more believable instead of excessive lights swirling around everything.

@Mtor Are you kidding me? The battlegrounds in SWTOR have nothing on AV and Im totally serious, not even trying to troll. The "warzones" they had in beta were less dynamic then warsong gulch.

I thought that as well, people actually seemed to live longer than 10 seconds.
The WoW style hatred exhibited before it's even released is a sure sign of success.
Here's hoping it's a good game, Activition-Blizzard need the wake-up call.

They lived longer than ten seconds because gear inflation and level wasn't an issue. Everyone was given the same level of equipment nobody had a full set of "epix"

I am a big PvPer and arena player.

While technically this looks very interesting and well designed, i still fell "MEHH" ok, kind of not that interesting to watch

Not completely sure why, but i have a theory, there is not enough visual variety, the creative aspects are heavily restrained by SW lore, the lassers/lighsabers 90% of the time gets old after a while. =/
