@real65rcncom It is part of the ARG. This was planned. Anyone who has been following the game over the past year knows this is all in the theme of the game. We are already working to solve the puzzles on the forums to unlock signups.

Well, I guess that was just trolling on their part. Thanks again

There have been tweets from @thedarkplaces lending itself to some ARG. That being said, if this game is strictly for those wishing to do ARGs(And it's not) it will fail.

Maybe the phase is called "The Secret war" for a reason.

I'm not sure how you fubar a beta sign up process, but if anyone can do it, Funcom can. Seemed like a good idea, but much like AoC, Funcom's clearly having some execution issues ... again ... /sigh.

Typical Funcom. Some things never change.

This is actually part of the ARG, there is nothing unprofessional about it. Sure, some of us were expecting a facebook tie-in with a simple interface in order to recruit our friends, but they've chosen a less accessible option for now.

Beta keys are already being given out to those participating in the forums, but you have to work for it. Check your facts and stop jumping to conclusions people.

Ummm... The Delay is a Lie.

If you had been following The Secret World, you would have been skeptical about the Beta Signup Delay.

This is all part of the conspiracy theory theme of the game. Currently on the forums a series of Tweets from @thedarkplaces are being used to unravel a puzzle. Once the puzzle is solved, Beta signups will be unlocked.

Good thing the TSW Community is a little more spry than the people posting on this thread. Don't be such sheep! Question everything!

Sorry, no. Its a delay. I've been tracking it since yesterday.

And please don't insinuate that we're stupid. Thanks.

@Lombardus Come help us solve the puzzles.

I very much believe, as does the community, that this is part of the plan.

If this *really* is part of the ARG, then Funcom's complete disconnect, and incredible hubris thinking this is "clever", is proof they do not understand that the very last thing they need is to deliberately instigate negative attention. Their reputation has been so shoddy for so many years, the last thing they need to do is be "clever" with a faked failure. Boggling, really, if they STILL don't get it.

And if this really *is* a delay, well, they're certainly are consistent. ;-)

@Nepentheia:

If this IS part of the plan, it is one of the cleverest marketing plans I've seen in a long time. If it's true then you really are probably the kind of person they wouldn't want.

I do know from what I've seen is that the whole entire MMO is based on rumors that are usually false and then they find out they are actually true. We all know that just about any player will try to get beta keys to see the game first and usually that's just send in this form and then wait.

If people wanted to get into TSW but aren't serious about placing their mind in the "game state" before playing, this could go right over their heads because something like this was never done before for beta keys.

Tell people your game is about conspiracies that actually are true and everything you've heard had some basis in truth or lies to cover it. Then announce pre-sign ups (you are going to want people who actually PLAN to solve the ingame beta puzzles, not just go raidin and PvPing), then say they were "cancelled" all the while still running it so that the usual beta flakes drop out.

Then when you actually push the beta, you know you have people who actually are smart enough to get in the spirit of the game so those get the beta.

I'm not saying it's all true but it would be the perfect plan when revealed and show people you are serious about the "bring your brain, not your G15" aspect to your mmo.

@real65rcncom

*chuckles*

Why would anyone think that delays and failed launching of an ARG be a good thing--when Funcom's history has been so badly tainted by issues like these which have plagued them since their first MMO? So bad that even trying to play on the "irony" of it only backfires on them.

They could have gone another route, one which would have not exposed so many wounds from their own development past.

But Funcom's marketing has always had a very distorted view of what is "best" for Funcom's games.

Trust me on this one. ;-)

Yeah not to jump on the Funcom hate machine but they kind of deserve it.

They've had 2 good games RUINED by unprofessional releases and business practices. I loved AO and AoC was a nice title, except for horrible releases and a lack of competency and reliability.

Honestly with Rift being such a fun game at the moment to tide me over until SWTOR and then GW2 come out, I was exciting for TSW because I've been burned by Funcom twice before.

Look, SWTOR seems to be, at the very least, a decent MMO and great RPG and GW2 looks to be possibly the BEST MMO IN HISTORY (yes I mean that) then I'm not worried about playing TSW.

Funcom this was your last chance and it's not starting out well.

I understand why it is frustrating. This is not the standard 'fill out this form' for beta test that MMO gamers are used to. Still, we had a helluva day deciphering (correctly) the puzzles that were fed throughout the day. Tomorrow brings the next clues. It has been an amazing event, if you participated in it. All in how you look at it I guess. Personally I'm giving Funcom points for creativity and for doing something directly related to the themes of TSW.

My rant earlier that Lombardus took as belittling the replies here was aimed at the trolls. There is a contingent of people who want TSW to fail because Funcom is involved. Those of us who have played AoC over the last year, and who are looking forward to Ragnar Tornquist's TSW, feel that Funcom shouldn't be crucified for the craptacular AoC launch and the year that followed. They make a good product and are under totally different leadership now. You may be right that this will have more negative press than good. Shame because the ARG reveal today was incredible.

@JediPagan real65rcncom said it best really, better to weed out the people that don't want to engage themselves fully to this. Since playing Ragnar's other games Dreamfall I know his penchant to do some very creative puzzles and weaving storylines.

Personally I'll admit I can't be assed to do these puzzles so there's no way in hell I'll get beta but congrats to those do, you all certainly earned it.

Go to the website and click on the main image. It links to a document dated August 26 from an in-game organization talking about a security breach. The beta "postponement" certainly appears to be part of an elaborate storyline. Now whether this is a smart move for Funcom (which has a pretty poor record with launches) is debatable. It looks pretty interesting to me, though.

So, according to Funcom, they had to postpone a simple beta signup until further notice? They don't know when they can get something as simple as a signup ready?

Wow, that instils such confidence in me that they would be able to launch the game in a better state than the half-baked Age of Conan.
