Or it is?
I've heard rumors of people souring the site and finding display:none links in the page source. It's only internet rumors though. I suppose if anyone IS getting in, they're only letting other members of their factions in.
I'm Illuminati for the record.

I only hint on the important patr of the "delay"-text:

P.S: The delay has also been picked up by the Council of Venice, who are already on the case!

the same cash-cow milking funcom running AoC, who ignore the PVP crowd of AoC totally, release buggy and never fixed "content", charging JUST the right amount in their cash shop so you need to buy the next most expensive shop-points for nearly any item, the same who release patch sized content for sale in AoC, the same who 3 years after releasing AoC have arguably barely got the game to a release state, but never managed to balance a single profession....those people went back on a promise? huh, i'm surprised they didn't charge us for the privilege

I really thought FC would have learnt their lesson. This time last week my hype for this game was so high,
-Then facebook required minigame
-Then MT bombshell
-Then FC fails at beta signup

Hype killed. Which is sad, because it has the best ideas of 'the big 3'

@Lateris It's almost as if the whining has become background noise since we hear so much of it on a weekly basis lol.

Cash shop with sub, Beta delay...Funcom pretty much lost the chance to see the secret world of my wallet. Shame.

@chum

For the record, b/c there seems to be a lot of confusion over this point, this was NOT the beta. This was an ARG to sign up for the beta.

In fact, the ARG may still be progressing as planned....it's a little unclear (especially given all the @thedarkplaces tweets) whether or not this is all a game within a game that Funcom had planned, or whether they're having actual technical difficulties.

Or both. They've taken advantage of technical difficulties and turned them into ARGs in the past.

Either way, the beta has not yet launched (so far as we know) and isn't supposed to launch for a while. This is just a fancy way of signing up for it. The game is still a minimum of 8 months from launch.

Yeah, there's definitely an arg /of some sort/ going on. They're even revealing info on the game, such as info on a 4th (most likely NPC) faction called the Phoenicians. But, like you say, it's difficult to say whether this is something they're making up on the fly or if this is what was planned all along.

Oh... and here I thought that the Circle of Venice letter was some sort of puzzle to solve before you could sign up... :P

That would also have sucked, BTW, because I don't have the patience for it, but at least it would have been in character, so to speak.

I have two points to make:
A) We are NOT dastardly, we are RIGHT!!
B) Good call sir, gin and tonic will make the wait quite a bit more tolerable.

First they promise us the ability to sign up for beta, then they pull this ARG shit and pretend it doesn't work, for no reason at all.

Hmm.. maybe this is all part of the conspiracy theme.

They say it's "delayed" so people don't follow through. Only those who keep digging find out it was just an elaborate ruse to find worthy beta players all along. It would fit in perfectly with the theme of the game regarding things being true despite what appearances look like.

Or, maybe it's really delayed.
