It's nice to relax and play FFXI and XIV with a controller. Prefer it over M/K.

@Raikulxox Does FFXIV or XI automatically detect the controller? Or do you just play on a console?

I know XIV detects most controllers. I have a little cheap-o logitec that works great with it.

FFXIV was nice for accepting all controllers, however that was more the exception (and only then because the console version will be a PS3 exclusive) than anything else.

I for one am sick of games trying to force my choice of peripherals onto me, I honestly don't fookin' want to use the 360 controller because I have a 4 year old wired Logitech that works just fine: why do I suddenly need to shell out $60 for MS exclusive product?

PS: I say $60 because MS has stopped manufacturing the stand alone wireless 360 PC receiver, they also stopped manufacturing the wired 360 controller. so the only way to use a 360 gamepad (if you don't already have either of those) is to shell out for the $60 package that contains both a black 360 controller and the USB adapter ... I already have 3 of those damned controllers lying around, I don't need a fourth (esp. when my current gamepad works just fine).

Just an FYI:
I also thought the wired 360 controller was out of production but apparently most stores just don't carry them. They still make wired ones right up to the recent model with black sticks and glossy guide button. Found it surfing newegg one day.

Hope this helps anyone who wants one!

I didn't have any trouble finding a wired 360 controller just a month ago. *shrug*

I've got several games that work with it, but I got it for Rusty Hearts in particular. Worked out very well. :)

I'm planning on picking up a 360 controller for Skyrim's release, and I know it works well in several MMOs or action games, such as Vindictus or FFXIV.

I've used my PS3 controllers on my PC before, but the amount of work to get the drivers running eventually turned me away from it. Every time you unplug the controller you'd have to reinstall the drivers, and then I started getting strange glitches from the software.

I've been using my PS3 controller just fine with my computer using DS3 Tool. Then again I keep it hooked up with the USB cable, maybe it gets more touchy if you try to use it wirelessly but that did seem like a lot more of a hassle so I didn't bother.

@Eamil Well that's the thing, I kept switching between my PC and my PS3 with it since they're both hooked up to the same entertainment center.

When I'd switch though, the drivers would get corrupted and the controller would start flashing its charge lights until it died.

The only way to prevent this was to re-pair the controller with the PS3 each time, which would then result in having to reinstall the driver software to use the controller on PC again.

Convoluted, drove me mad. I'll keep my PS3 controllers on my PS3 from not on, hah!

I just feel more comfortable with MK. I have more control and more buttons to keybind with and easier access to those buttons.

Generally, if there's a game that's available for PC and Console, I'm getting it on PC so I can play it with MK. Plus, I have a comfy desk chair.

I play Rift with a 360 controller. I use xPadder (www.xpadder.com) to get things set up though. It's not free, but you also don't need to worry about viruses and the like. Through clever use of macros and keybindings I've got my dps role set up to do just as well as using the keyboard and mouse. I do manage to use every single button possible on the controller though. They're poor replacements for keyboards, but much nicer on the hands for prolonged periods of time.

@Silverel I totally use Xpadder and an XBox 360 controller for all my MMO games (and Mass Effect 2). Been playing WoW for the last few years with my controller and I LOVE it, especially since I'm mostly a casual player. But I've definitely raided with it and it works out just fine. Macros in WoW help a LOT. Plan to do the same for SWTOR.

Playing Eve with a 360 controller is like a dream come true.

It's super intuitive. To activate your first module you simply hit own, down, left, right, quarter circle, right, A, B, A, X, Y, left trigger, r3

To activate the second module, you would simply enter the next logical sequence: up, back, 3 full cirlces, Y, Y, Y, A, l3 + r3, right trigger, left trigger, X, B, A, back button

And so on and so on for the following modules.

For other, more rarely-used functions, such as self-destruct, you just hit the A button once.

Honestly, I don't know how I went so long without using a controller to play Eve. Sorry, keyboard and mouse, you're a thing of the past!

Part of the pain of using console controllers comes from having to hold them, especially for the extended time involved with MMO's. Have you tried using a thumbball vs a mouse? I'vebeen using these for years just because of the comfort, but I regularly see folks talking about thumbballs as an option for repetitive stress issues.
Coupled with a gamepad like the G13 or Nostromo, the thumbball and dpad give an experience similar to console controllers - dual thumbstick.

@Grendalsh Yeh I have a had a thumbball mouse for a long time, just moved up to a wireless one. Really, at this point and according to the doc, there is no relief for it except taking breaks or eventual surgery. I prefer to take breaks and use elbow ice packs! lol

Odd, I'm only 37. Luckily the rest of me is healthy. :)
