While the big news from The Secret World out of Gamescom was its April 2012 launch window, that's not all the developers had to say about this creeptastic title. Ragnar Tornquist opened up to Ten Ton Hammer about the game's epic large-scale PvP fights between the three factions of the Dragons, the Illuminati, and the Templars.
Unlike The Secret World's smaller PvP battlefields, the warzones are persistent with a much larger population. So instead of waiting for a match, experienced players can hop right into a warzone for the glory and honor of their faction. In the warzones, players can capture respawn points to help out their faction and work on their secret society ranking while doing it. Tornquist said that the first warzone is in a Chinese city, although it doesn't have a name yet.
Tornquist stated that the game should provide players with "several hundred hours" of PvE experience, not to mention the title's PvP and optional internet quests that will have the dedicated hunting through websites for arcane clues.
Funcom's project lead thinks the total sum of The Secret World will be unlike anything we've ever seen before: "When the story and the respective events are ready to show off, we are going to blow your minds."

I hope it will bring back the good old days of Tarren Mill vs Southshore, the only PvP I enjoyed.

I don't think so. In addition, you'll have to deal with 3 factions as well. From what I understand, one of the 3 factions controls a main base. Outside the base are 'anima wells'. If you capture 5 of these at once, you can then use 'anima charges' to break open the front door.
Here's where diplomacy comes in - you can either team up with the other faction on the out, or fight over who gets to attack the main base.
Once the attacking faction(s) push the defenders deep enough into the base, a giant mechanical robot springs to life and helps defend. Once one attacking faction gains control of the center of the base, they can claim the building and the robot is brought back online to defend.
So far, nothing has been said of cabal (guild) pvp features. Also of note is that each faction will be wearing uniforms, and the uniform's look will correspond to your passive bonuses or skills as a visual representation of defensive ability - ie if you're specced for tanking, you'll be wearing a flak jacket in addition to the uniform.

The Secret World was first announced in 2007. Since then there have been various more obscure interviews in which Morrison has dropped hints of a massive underground PvP warzone in Agartha with factions capturing 'cells', although apparently this has now been somewhat reworked.

This is one source. Other bits I gleaned from community members attending gamescom and other previous announcements.

The problem is that FC networks are not that good in supporting large scale battles in AoC.I hope they've improved it so that it works better for TSW.

haha like Sieges in AoC ;)
Looks like they use a variation of the same damn graphics engine so they can forget any big pvp battles.

Like in Aoc. I remember the day when they said:
OMG LARGE SCALE PVP IN AOC IS IN!
and than some month later during the first days of release:
Large scale in pvp is in, 24vs24 is not large scale pvp?
I ragequitted imediately

One thing that did bother me was the mention of the zone being 'full'. I guess then that there will be a cap on how many people can participate at once.

Large-scale PVP does not make sense in a game about conspiracy and secret societies. Quit wasting resources trying to make your game appeal to everyone.

I know PVP folks love this, but ya this isn't really a pvp game.

@(Unverified) It's neither trying to be 'PvP' or 'PvE' - That's not the game's focus. Tornquist wants to make it story focused, but in how far that works out, we shall see.

I think Chrome explains it best. The story; mystery, rumors, puzzles really make the main part of this game. I'm not downing PVP, it's just not the focus.
