It's that time again, Trekkers and Trekkies -- Star Trek Online's August Engineering Report is upon us.
STO executive producer Daniel Stahl has offered up a post that kicks off with praise for Cryptic's new overlords at Perfect World Entertainment. He goes on to state that subs are up as players stream in to check out the new Ground Combat system and that the team is working extra hard to push out the long-awaited Deep Space 9-themed Feature Series 4. Stahl also outlines the devs' fall plans for the REDSHIRT closed beta server and notes that the upcoming September 22nd update "will be pretty big [...] some might say even bigger than the launch of Season 4."
Finally, the post winds down with a meaty list of game features and bug fixes currently in testing, including tweaks to the Duty Officer system, random Borg encounters, the group-finder tool, lore quests, and more.

"Ability to auction Emblems for C-Points between players" has been moved from "In Development" to "In Testing".. The C-Store ships were bad enough, but they are actually going through with giving players a way to get endgame currency for RL money!?

@Faryon
Its not just end game emblems. Marks, Badges, etc are all getting converted into a new currency that you can earn and trade to others for cpoints. So that means more dailies at all levels to earn "new currency" that you can trade for cpoints. So long as there are cool things to buy with "new currency" then this could be a win for different players.

Who cares about people buying emblems with C-points? The crafted stuff is just as good, if not better, than what you can get with emblems anyways. All of the ship equipment, consoles, and away team stuff which can be purchased with emblems can also be crafted (and at the same quality level).
And on top of that the best ship equipment can't even be had for emblems (Aegis, Borg, Breen sets).
The larger point here is now PAYING customers can finally have an in-game method of earning the points for C-Store stuff.
As it is now we're stuck with both a subscription cost *AND* MTs which is pretty B.S.. Cryptic doesn't even treat CO players that badly and a CO freemium account provides 30-day access to almost everything in their C-Store.
Ugh, STO needs to go F2P last year.

The changes since this producer took over have really made a difference in this game.

Wait so now instead of spending money to get these points, I can play the game and get points to buy premium items? I don't see a downside here?

C points this, subscription fee that.... really, even though I love Star Trek, I'm not supporting a game that has both a monthly fee and a cash shop. It's either one or the other Cryptic!
Also, a heavily instance game like this is more like Guild Wars in space but Guild Wars has no monthly fee.

It's a left over of Atari (what do you expect). No doubt this move to combine currency into *insert name of new currency* and the ability to exchange *insert new currency name* for c-store points is a move towards F2P which will eventually happen. My bets are for it to happen mid next year at the earliest.

Cryptic needs to ad more content like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtKD39djJRI
Real content for Klingon faction , awesome storyline missions and endgame content.

@Kark I doubt kdf will ever get the content they deserve, right now cryptic is talking about romulians and other 3rd factions already. I'm hoping they add content for kdf as I liked playing on that side more but I have my doubts.

As for the game going f2p, it's been discussed in the forums ad nauseum since the company was acquired by TPW and every single one that got a post from a dev was either evasive or simply made some copy paste statement that doesn't deny or confirm it. Really though I think anyone playing sto that thinks the game will remain p2p in the hands of TPW is kidding themselves.

I'm amazed this hasn't gone f2p yet, have no doubt it will (or it'll fold entire, but doubt that seriously).

The thing that will finally bring me back to the game is this (under In Design Discussions):
"One sector map to rule them all (eliminating sector walls entirely)"
The one thing that really bothered me (albeit only a small part but still obliterated immersion) was the walls in-between sectors. Get rid of them and have a seamless universe and I will come back and sample all the great new features implemented since the last time I played about a year ago.

It's about time, content comes in STO at a laughable rate at the moment, a content drought of SIX to SEVEN months (with a DELAY of 4 Months) in a Game that isn't even two years old is simply a joke.
Not to meintion that we have seen so far 5 of the "featured episodes" this year, they where planned as one per Week.
