If this game is ever released for the PC, I'll give it a try.

Cosmetic only items for an FPS... not exactly a cash cow. Maybe I'm just being paranoid but CCPs comment saying you can "choose to play for free and just grind", is that implying you can choose to pay and skip some sort of grind?

Yeah we knew DUST was going to have MT, they're made clear all their games will feature MT. What kind of items are they going to sell exactly?

@(Unverified) Ok I checked the Joystiq article and raised a red flag; commenting on players being able to buy non-currency items with currency CCP stated "It avoids the buy/win problem that some microtransaction-based games have".

Are they telling us that you can buy an advantage? This game might not have sub fees but it does have a box price, albeit for the cost of a Miller-Lite 30 pack.

@(Unverified) I thought it was a known that Dust was going to be a full on RMT cash shop situation? Everything is going to be for sale in Dust. I don't think they promised cosmetic only for Dust. The 'cosmetic only' thing is what they pretend is for EvE.

"Hey guys, check out this hot new FPS! Oh, but don't play the FPS part, just game the market. Like in EVE... Actually, just play EVE."

@tidalkraken yea that's definitely what they meant. By which I mean, if you read around you'll see that they're expecting some capsuleers that have DUST to just use it to speculate the market.

So.. those were surprisingly honest answers to give before the launch.

Summary:
- You give them $20 real cash. They give you $20 in-game cash and the game client (why does this sound like a Jita scam?)
- All items in game (so not only cosmetics) can be purchased from the cash shop. But you can also go out and grind them if you're poor.
- You can sell both of these types in the in-game "auctionhouse"?
- CCP thinks this somehow avoids pay-to-win and splitting the community? (wtf?!?)

..and..

- CCP expects some people won't play their shooter, they just sit in the lobby manipulating the market. And that's ok.

I don't have PS3, so it's not like I could play it even if I wanted to, but after that.. it doesn't really sound very much... fun?

@SgtBaker1234556

I recall having seen that the in game currencies will be the new "cash shop" currency for dust (as opposed to EVE's Aurum) and standard ISK. As in the same ISK that EVE pilots use.

If this remains true then pay to win is avoided by the ISK that crosses games. Joining a large corp or freelancing out to them could be very lucrative if CCP makes planetary control necessary for EVE players.

The sooner Dust fails the sooner CCP can get back to work fixing Eve.

some stuff (non cosmetic) can be bought with Aurum
Aurum is bought with real money
Stuff bought with Aurum can be reselled in eve (dust?) for isk

Can be done now in eve without dust. The problem most people had was not money for isk. But spawning ships and ammo for irl money.

lol i know first had that the ps3 community will not be 'playing the market' its not a game console's demographic, the majority of console players would be unfamiliar with the concept, which either means 1) they are marketing this for eve only players which would be retarded because their niche is too small and why wouldn't they just play eve. Or 2) This is just a quick cash grab, nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah, I'm still baffled why they would put this on the ps3 when their core audience is on the pc. I think the daydreams of unified attacks with eve ships and dust troops aren't going to be what we think it will be, or what it could be.
