everyone who has said anything other than age of conan needs to go download that and play it. right now.

i have played them all over teh last two decades and age of conan has the best, most immersive world of any mmorpg.

First impressions are awesome, but once you get out of Tortage i don't think it lives up to the promise of the first impression.

I'll vote LOTRO. Much bigger environment and only a hair less high-res

Could you ask me again when I've had a chance to explore Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Fav world as opposed to fav game... Would have to go with SWG (when it was populated). Being able to build your own house anywhere & hang anything you like on the walls. Form your own villages/cities. Just the vast openness of a Star Wars universe. 2nd place goes to LotRO, specifically the Shire. Really does a stunning job of bringing Tolkein's world to life.

SWG, and my poor desert outpost city on Lok.

Unlike Krayts the Kimogila didn't drop pearls so not that unusual to have a couple camping around town until we could get a posse together to take them down.

I love Vana'diel, from FFXI.

It's the first game world I've ever felt homesick for.

I would have to choose Middle Earth of Lotro and more specifically The Shire. If there is a more magical and just plain fun area in an mmo I haven't been there yet.

Having said that I will always have a special place for Vana'diel of FFXI and the many happy memories of exploring all that world has to offer.

Hyboria. It's a cold cruel world.

Hmm,

DAOC. Could be it was my first MMO (had no game map back then, use map books and hand drawn notes). And you never forget your first.

@mikejl DAOC, most definitely ..3 completely different worlds in one game. An Arthurian styled Camelot setting, a dark Norse-themed Midgard, and the magical world of Hibernia with elves and fairies. Each realm was so different, was almost 3 games in one. From the music to the landscape, it really set the mood of whichever realm you chose to fight for.

I still remember riding my 15 minute horse-trip to Myrkwood for the first time. It was so dark and forbidding, i was actually scared to go in there.

Damn you Njesse!

Paragon City, the Rogue Isles & Praetoria. Fantastically fleshed out places which have gotten deeper with time.

Even though I took a year out, it's still my favourite MMO world.

Pre-Cata Azeroth was a great world. FFXIV's world is fairly nice, but I haven't found the same "urge to explore" in any MMO for a long... long time.

For me, it would be Pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies, hand down. Eve Online comes in as a close second.

Vana'diel without a doubt.

Specifically, Tavnazia and the areas around it. Lush, mysterious, and forgotten by all but its few survivors after the Great War. From the gigantic Misareaux waterfall to the abandoned watchtowers; from the haunted Sacrarium to the floating Riverne sites; it's pretty amazing to explore even today.

Not to mention some NMs in those zones made me a pretty penny or two back when (or even if they didn't, were plain fun. looking at you evil en-petrify hate-reset ram from hell). Always a bonus.
