@djodars GW 2 beat both SWTOR and WoW last year at Gamescom. It was not eligible to compete this year for that reason.

How can games that aren't even out yet win awards?

That really doesn't make sense to me. o_O

@ElfLove Lol I don't get that either. If a game you can't even play yet is the best game out there, I need to meet these voters and tell them about how I found some gold in Nigeria and need their bank account to get it out.

I plan to get SWTOR, but I was much more impressed with what Guild Wars 2 had to offer at Gamescom.

Huttball. I am liking it. Not so sure I like the full up combat/warzone aspect of it. Would have been interesting if they went with a more sport like, level independent / gear independent skill only kinda of conflict. But a neutral combat arena is not bad.

@VikingGamer

Warzones are essentially that. You can play in a warzone a level 20 with someone that is level 50. Every one's abilities get "scaled" to a certain point. You will only have the abilities available to your original level though so a level 20 up against a level 50 won't have the full bag of tricks.

Thanks for the news post and very exciting news indeed. This game will end up being worth the wait! Now for an actual release date and a stated monthly charge. :P

I am expecting SWTOR to be good and fun... But if anet pulls of what they are going for in GW2, they might just make a game that is great. To do great things you have to take chances and risk failure.

Battlefield 3 is a "single-player title?" I mean, it'll have a campaign but that's hardly the focus of the game.

Looks fun. That's what these games are supposed to be about right?

Yes Huttball comes as a huge surprise to everyone because we all patiently wait for BW to make something official before allowing its existence to register in our minds.

Thanks to this phenomenon, I don't know whether or not Revan is in TOR, nor do I know how the Jedi Knight story ends.

I know GW2 was there, but not to be voted first is a real shocker to me. I'm as big of a star wars nerd as the next guy! But from videos and faqs, SWTOR brings nothing new to the MMO genre...Just a nice looking game on the veins of RIFT. I mean of course I pre-ordered it already but still lol.

Bring on GW2!!

The Old Republic's big advantage is "its Star Wars". If there was ever a franchise that could make people its financial bitch with more than several fair shares of mediocre products and spinoffs, its Star Wars.

@syklonis: GW2 was ineligible to be nominated considering it won last year.

@syklonis Or it just might be a "how did DA2 score so high on professional reviews?" situation.

As has been pointed out, their late alpha last year won this award so they were ineligible for this year's award. Based on polling at mulitple portals of the attndees, GW2 is running around 70% of 'best in show' last i checked.

honestly though, if we get GW2 + SW:TOR + BF3 + Skyrim + Torchlight 2 all in a single year, we're showered with an embarassment of riches. (Deathwing who?)
