If you've been waiting for all the details on Guild Wars 2 PvP, today is a big day for you. The PvP side of the game will be unveiled and playable at Gamescom starting today.
For those of you playing along at home (or possibly waiting for the doors to open at Gamescom), ArenaNet has a little something to distract you from the fact that you're not enjoying the hands-on right now: a brand-new blog entry from Jon Peters with a full PvP overview.
Jon outlines the different types of PvP in GW2, from casual hot join matches to high-stakes tournaments, and offers some tips for better playing. He quite literally covers PvP play from beginning to end, talking about gear, skills, and levels when you start as well as finishing moves to send your opponent off to the great beyond.
It's a typically extensive and informative entry, so head to the Guild Wars 2 site to see for yourself! For even more PvP details, check out Jonathan Sharp's new ArenaNet blog post as well.

Interesting that there is no "Mesmer pro tip" in that article, even though the control of information is still very tight at this time at Anet?
It either points to a possible cause to despair for those wanting the Mesmer class or it points to nothing (the class is still not in-game and still being developed or what-have-you). It is up to the reader to decide (unless someone knows something and is willing to let is slip in acknowledgement?).

Hey the scenarios in WAR were a blast. But at the same time, they offered incentives. PvP just for PvP's sake gets boring quick, so I don't see these 'hotjoin' battlegrounds style PvP being very popular, unless it offeres some way to better your PvE toon in the process.
Interesting article but definately waiting for the WvWvW details....

So first, I love the team names in the screenshot on the Guild Wars 2 site. And second, on the blog I see a dog with the Sylvari. Does that mean Rangers can get dogs as pets? :D

Ugh. Capture points. My least-favorite mode in FPSes and MMORPGs. Like I keep saying, it seems like they're designing GW2 specifically to keep me away...

@The Ogre
I dislike capture points as well, but typically because traditional MMO classes aren't really designed for that sort of combat.
But considering the Engineer class, there seems to be far more appropriate tools to work with. And also the potentially strong combination with Guardians and Elementalists makes it seem like there will be an emphasis on legitimate strategy and team play, which to me makes the concept much more appealing.

I just hope the W v W v W pvp compensates for the lack of open world pvp

I get that, I just hope it works, meaning I hope the W v W v W environment (map) is large enough to re-create those fluid moments in world pvp.

I'm loving the howls of protest from hardcore pvp'ers who are getting nervous of having to compete against casual pvp'ers with the same gear as them. What's the matter guys? Skills not up to the challenge? If you are that good, you should be able to wipe the floor with anyone regardless of gear. Ahhhhhh truly balanced and competitive pvp ....... Love it!
