@Ren54

mmo WITH healing class can also turns out to be zergfest. With or without specific healing role is never a part of the equation of a good competitive scene.

I think it will be awesome to play without a dedicated healer. However, the ballsy comment still stands in regards to letting a bunch of (possibly) very unskilled players pvp and release videos of it.

There's nothing worse than finally having a new video released and watching the person keyboard turn / click skills / etc. Hopefully the players can hold it down!

@Ren54 The only zergfests I've played were WITH healers. I've played WAR for 6 months and most big battles were extremely tiring because of the healers and tanks.

Water attuned mages have more healing abilities, in addition to every character having a choice of a different type of self heal.

They better not have arenas in GW2. Im tired of that shit, devs can't get it together and make some real pvp in a MASSIVE mog then they need to go back to school.

Seriously why make it arena play in a MASSIVE game. Make it world play only, arena play has no part in it.

Guild Wars made a competitive impact on PvP with arenas. While I agree that I'd rather have open-world fun, they are supplying that as well. They want an E-Sport, arenas are the only way to provide a competitive E-Sport.

@dranzerk I would agree with you for the most part but Anet has proved in the past that they know how to implement small scale pvp, and balance it well enough, and more importantly separate its effects from pve.

The "Arena" in Arenanet isn't there just for show, they know pvp. As someone that was an arena/bg/world pvp player in WoW, War, and any mmo I play. Anet has a better understanding of pvp than most other company in the business.

Guild Wars 2 HAS Massive RvR fights, (Called WvWvW) but do you know how hard that would be to show at a Demo? Those kinds of things require thousands of players at one time, and they last TWO WEEKS. Imagine a Two Week long demo? They may release a Video of some WvWvW, but my guess is we'll have to wait for Beta.

@Ren54

Preventing damage rather than restoring all damage has always been a good system. It was already in place for Guild Wars, they just decided to take out the restore part. You also forget Guild Wars 2 has dynamic combat, where you can dodge attacks. In my opinion, it sets a higher skill cap and a steeper learning curve on the game--which is always a good thing in the long term.

Anyways, no dedicated healer has worked in PvP titles in the past; and in pretty bignamed ones as well...

Damage reduction as in -% to damage taken? I was more referring to Guardian skills such as Aegis.

If you're moving into gear --> advantage, everyone in PvP is supposed to have the "same" gear. Only thing that changes is appearance and some bonuses that everyone can get.

@Ren54 One way or the other it's going to be a learning experience for Anet. All the internal testing in the company can't substitute a player with the arena esport mentality or just the causal friends pvping together.

Sorry but anet has not proven they understand anything about esports.

GW1 pvp was snail paced composition wars.

GW2 has yet to prove itself as anything, but I think anytime mmos try to promote themselves as having "esports" pvp they've already failed.

Bring back good old fashioned full loot open world pvp. None of this hyped up bs to try and make 14 year old suburban kids feel hardcore.

You know as well as I do that the days of sandbox are over. The generation today play for rewards, rewards are their fun--not a fair fight...or an unfair fight. I'd love for full loot open world gameplay, but the majority can't handle it.

Full loot open world pvp was exactly what made 14 year old suburban kids feel hardcore. That idea is dead and gone, and the genre is only better for it. Why? Because its simply not fun.

@Apakal - Exactly. The old, worn-out ideas of previous MMOs are getting thrown aside for a reason. Companies are interested in making games that people want to buy, not trying to appeal to the niche markets of players who have the time to deal with timesink mechanics like full looting, permadeath and the other flawed mechanics.

@dinhosaur Accept gear doesn't really matter in this game? Soo taking somebody's gear from them won't make much of a difference? The Mists will supply a great open world PvP element, will it be FFA like sandbox? No, but it is going to be 3 faction based, and if it is anything like DAoC, then it will work out great.

Seems fun to me...

What isn't fun is solely reward-based gaming where everyone feels like they are entitled to loot after they achieve x accomplishment. Full-loot PvP only works if:

1. Gear matters little to none.
2. People are willing to PvP for the hell of it.
3. People want to PvP, for the hell of it.
4. People are willing to take risks.

Seeing as none of these requirements are fulfilled by the majority of players/developers--they aren't in. Sorry but PvP would be a lot better off without the mindset of PvE gear-progression.
