We're coming to the end of Guild Wars 2 Sylvari Week, but the information train isn't slowing down at all. Today's lineup includes a video of the Sylvari starting area, more screenshots, Sylvari wallpapers, and an entry from writer Jeff Grubb.
Jeff talks quite a bit about the history and origin of the Sylvari, touching on several elements that can be found in the current Guild Wars game, such as Ventari, Ronan, and familiar enemies and locations. He also presents some insight into the race's lifestyle, varying personalities, rulers, and more. Finally, he looks at some of the challenges facing the Sylvari, both from within and without.
Check out the new video below along with new media from the Sylvari starting area, and read Jeff's full entry at the ArenaNet Guild Wars 2 page.

The Pale Tree is easily one of the best visuals I have seen in an MMO to date.

Aye it definitely caught my eye through the video. Is it just me, or is there a vague outline of a human-like form caused by the tree itself in the leaves. The outline and shape looks like it could be a body, with arms outstretched.
Maybe I'm just crazy though!

"The sylvari battle the undead minions of Zhaitan on a regular basis."

Does this race come with a pack of frozen vegetables?

No, but I hear they are spread across a thousand islands.

Peas, leaf me alone! I don't desert this!
Dammit, now I have to make a Sylvari Necromancer. "Sprout out into pears my minions!"

very impressively redesigned, doesn't quite sideline my creation of a Norn, but I just might make a sylvari necromancer just to revel in the contradiction of it.

Eh, there isn't a contradiction at all with a Sylvari Necromancer. Ghosts of Ascalon's main Sylvari, Kileen (think that's right) was a necromancer, because she found death fascinating. As a race that has only just come into the world, I'm sure the concept is interesting to all of them, being born of the ground, to live upon it, then return to it as you pass on.

I agree starting area looks beautiful, this race is not my thing but seems like the race roundup should be enough to please everyone. A little to much bob in the run and walk animation with all the races, kind of bugging me a bit. Regardless, looking forward to this game!

@(Unverified) I agree, but it is similar to the walking of some of the newer professions in GW1.

I wonder if you can have an insane Sylvari?
I would like mine to be bat-shit-crazy, makes life more interesting that way.

I imagine it could be possible. Maybe you came a little too close to the "nightmare" while in the Dream of Dreams, which tainted your consciousness? A constant struggle between yourself and the echoes commanding you to do an act of evil.
I don't know, that is a very good question...
