@(Unverified) I found it really, really jarring to go from elfy Bratz dolls, which I wasn't crazy about, to the full-on lettuce folk look they now have, which really freaked me out.

Now, they're growing on me. I appreciate the uniqueness and the consistency of the design vision. Sylvari aren't like any other fantasy race and their reasoning behind their appearance and anatomy seems sound.

I *love* that we have a slender male model as opposed to a powerlifter model.

My only gripe now is the 80-year-old man voice paired with the 16-year-old sylvari body.

@j1083 Yeh i was expecting a more of a teenager kind of voice. A little more consistency on that would be nice. But if that is the main thing we have to complain about that means things are looking really damn good.

@wufiavelli Yeah, it's not an absolute dealbreaker. As a negative nancy, I can be counted on to find fault with pretty much anything. Still, when nearly everything GW2 related fills me with glee, even the smallest disappointment seems a bit jarring.

I really, really like the redesign, now. The way botanical elements sculpt together to create each piece of a sylvari is awesome and the amount of variety you can obviously employ to create your own seems staggering. I just wish they had voices that fit the model better. The female sylvari sound fine. Completely normal. I don't understand why they felt compelled to make the men sound ancient.

"...so its more of the *illusion* of human anatomy..."

That sums it up very nicely! :)

I am fangirling almost as hard over Ree and Kristen as I am over the sylvari. Awesome devs and their awesome race.

I'm definitely digging Caithe's model (the white and black haired Sylvari), as well as the general diversity in looks. You got the more humane looking ones, kind of like Caithe, then straight up unnatural like... well, the darker-skinned Autumn-styled Sylvari like in the post picture above (maybe winter, just taking a guess based off the leafs in her hair).

And the males general leanness isn't bugging me that much while seeing them in motion and in armor.

@DevilSei

To me the post picture looks like a leopard-tree thing I do like the idea of branch hair though

Nice video and it sums up the blog nicely.

While I am impressed by the over all change and view it for the better. What I have seen for the males is rather unimpressive and as the Sylvari is a major reason why I want to play Guild Wars 2 I am going to have to hold off until I see more character and costume designs for the race. Because I am have grown rather tired of playing males that are ugly when compared to females of the same race (the original design had males looking as appealing as the females). But at least the males don't look like bodybuilders so that is a plus. :-P

Still I do prefer the more plant like design and agree the race should remind you of a humanoid race but at the same time be rather alien and they did a nice job of conveying that. It kinda reminds me of the Sylvan and that is a plus in my book.

@Unshra
Judging from some of the face models, I think it'll be more than possible for you to make a prettier sylvari male if you like. I don't think the males are unattractive at all compared to the females, but I'm sure you'll be able to find something to suit your tastes.

@Unshra 126 has a pretty cool looking male. Also some of the pics of more winter oriented syl. males look pretty badass and also kind of cool and creepy.

@wufiavelli Appearance is rather subjective, and I did not find a single male in their blog appealing and honestly I am not looking for a "badass" looking male. Just something comparable to the females or more notably something that equals the Sylvari I've come to call the "epitome" of Sylvari. This Sylvari is shown in 1:10 in the video and is on the top page of the blog, she is clearly based off the original concept art.

Still what is benign shown is but a fraction of the options so hopefully there will be an option that comes close.

I will continue to wait and see what else is released down the pipe but for now my interest will remain much lower than it was before the Sylvari week. However I do like everything else that has been exposed this week (the lore, insight into their way of life and the female models and clothing options, etc.)

I absolutely love this Sylvari week! I've been waiting for it for so long and they have really done a fabulous job on keeping it...relatively realistic. It's definitely better than I was anticipating and is less Avatar-like than I was expecting.

I am really impressed that they were willing to reinvent their own creation. Sometimes it's hard to take a truly critical eye to your own work but the results here are astounding.

I didn't think it'd be possible to pull my love away from humanity, but the sylvari have done it.

Only one thing that bugs me:

I've seen many things, read many books, and creatively thought of and about many concepts with my fantasy/sci-fi interests over my years of being a fan (and I like art, too!). So, the last statement of, "You've seen nothing like this," leaves myself wincing. Then again, I admit to being jaded in my knowledge AND I admit this is the best looking plant-like race in an MMO, but I have thought about such concepts in PnP games and plant culture, such as Dryads in relation to the human world.

Still, looking forward to it.
