Guild Wars 2 video talks Sylvari background and design

@(Unverified) I found it really, really jarring to go from elfy Bratz dolls, which I wasn't crazy about, to the full-on lettuce folk look they now have, which really freaked me out.

Now, they're growing on me. I appreciate the uniqueness and the consistency of the design vision. Sylvari aren't like any other fantasy race and their reasoning behind their appearance and anatomy seems sound.

I *love* that we have a slender male model as opposed to a powerlifter model.

My only gripe now is the 80-year-old man voice paired with the 16-year-old sylvari body.

@j1083 Yeh i was expecting a more of a teenager kind of voice. A little more consistency on that would be nice. But if that is the main thing we have to complain about that means things are looking really damn good.

@wufiavelli Yeah, it's not an absolute dealbreaker. As a negative nancy, I can be counted on to find fault with pretty much anything. Still, when nearly everything GW2 related fills me with glee, even the smallest disappointment seems a bit jarring.

I really, really like the redesign, now. The way botanical elements sculpt together to create each piece of a sylvari is awesome and the amount of variety you can obviously employ to create your own seems staggering. I just wish they had voices that fit the model better. The female sylvari sound fine. Completely normal. I don't understand why they felt compelled to make the men sound ancient.

To me the post picture looks like a leopard-tree thing I do like the idea of branch hair though

Judging from some of the face models, I think it'll be more than possible for you to make a prettier sylvari male if you like. I don't think the males are unattractive at all compared to the females, but I'm sure you'll be able to find something to suit your tastes.

@Unshra 126 has a pretty cool looking male. Also some of the pics of more winter oriented syl. males look pretty badass and also kind of cool and creepy.

@wufiavelli Appearance is rather subjective, and I did not find a single male in their blog appealing and honestly I am not looking for a "badass" looking male. Just something comparable to the females or more notably something that equals the Sylvari I've come to call the "epitome" of Sylvari. This Sylvari is shown in 1:10 in the video and is on the top page of the blog, she is clearly based off the original concept art.

Still what is benign shown is but a fraction of the options so hopefully there will be an option that comes close.

I will continue to wait and see what else is released down the pipe but for now my interest will remain much lower than it was before the Sylvari week. However I do like everything else that has been exposed this week (the lore, insight into their way of life and the female models and clothing options, etc.)
